The National Guard in Hermosa Beach, California has a long and storied history. The first national guard unit to be stationed in the town was organized on July 1, 1946. At that time, the United States Air Force had just ended World War II and activated its own units of airmen to provide security for the nation during peacetime. The airmen were called the Pacific Air Forces and were quartered at Malibu Airport. On December 12, 1946, local citizens convened a meeting in order to discuss forming a local national guard unit. After much discussion, it was decided that a panel of three citizens would be responsible for choosing the members of the unit and setting up its rules of operation. The group also created an insignia for the unit which consisted of an eagle clutching an olive branch with two arrows pointing skyward. The first officer commanding the new unit was Captain John Ahern who had served as commander of Marine barracks at Miramar Naval Base in San Diego County. He soon ascended to command of all statewide military forces within California including those assigned to Hermosa Beach Municipal Court House Museum where he organized daily guard services from 1948-1951 inclusive. In April 1951, Captain Ahern became Colonel and Deputy Commander of United States Army's 9th Infantry Division stationed at Fort MacArthur in Los Angeles County when that division was reactivated following President Truman's decision to end World War II on September 2, 1945. Lieutenant Colonel Harold Kapp became Colonel Commanding Officer (CO) on July 1st 1956 when Colchester Barracks located downtown Hermosa Beach closedown after serving as USMCR Headquarters since 1949 during peacetime; concurrently being garrisoned by elements from Company F (California National Guard) Battalion 101st Aborigines Regiment attached until 1952 with 3d Battalion/343rd Aviation Brigade/Air Wing 892d Troop Carrier Group providing escort duty until early 1957 when battalion elements moved permanently inside city limits into old post building across SW corner lot from beach now home Of City Hall). Later that year while Commanding 3d Battalion/343rd Aviation Brigade/Air Wing 892d Troop Carrier Group ICOMA relocated aircraft hangar & associated facilities directly across SW corner lot from beach now home Of City Hall) Headquarters Battery - 2nd Battalion (New Mexico National Guard), later redesignated 4th Battalion (California National Guardsman), arrived August 1957 & assumed duties immediately adjacent Building still standing today as West Side Armory Annex As part of federally funded peacekeeping operations worldwide Brigadier General James Smedley assumed command January 15 1959 bringing approximately 10 battalions or groups together under his banner including 7th Fighter Squadron (UH-1Y Huey "Camel") which operated out OFFROAD BASE LAS VEGAS NV during phases 0-4 then transferred BACK TO HERMOSA BEACH MAY 1959 thru OCTOBER 1960 PHOTO ARREST WITNESS: WILLIAM BOWEN LOCATED ON RIGHT NEXT DOOR AS PRISONER IN CUSTODY BEFORE COURT MARCH 1959 WITH HIS HUSBAND JEFFREY GORDON WHO WAS ALSO AWARDED PRISONERS RELEASE FROM WARRANT PROCEEDINGS DUE TO NON PAYMENT OF MONETARY RESTITUTION & $500 BRIGADE MEMBER CARD Throughout this period various Hawaiian Islands Citizens offered guardship privileges contingent upon availability or registration with state police forcesHawaii Island Citizens provided support services ongoing thru 1966 include night vigil outside Honolulu jail nightshift guarding Waianae courthouse Complex then took over guarding Correctional Facility #2 daytime hours only

In the United States, the national guard is a reserve force of the armed forces that are called to respond to emergencies or other crises. The National Guard was first organized in 1792 as an emergency militia to support the Continental Army during the American Revolution. The first modern national guard unit was created in 1802 when Rhode Island set up its own regiment of militia. From its creation until 1861, the military forces of New York were controlled by New York City and their commanders were appointed by Governor George Clinton. However, on July 14, 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee arrived at Niagara Falls and ordered all officers and men of New York's 1st Regiment of Infantry north to reinforce Confederate units at Harper's Ferry. After battle ensued between Union soldiers and Confederates near Fallingwater Massacre Site, President Abraham Lincoln called for a general mobilization of all able-bodied men in America under his command which would become known as the Ulysses S. Grant Expeditionary Force (UCEF). On October 16th UCEF arrived in Washington DS with 5500 troops including cavalry and artillery batteries from around America; however it soon became clear that Grant could not march his army into Virginia due to logistical problems caused by thunderstorms blocking roads and landslides throughout his journey. With winter on the horizon, Grant decided against entering Richmond and returned home after only three weeks in country when he learned that Confederate forces had evacuated Richmond without taking any prisoners or munitions. This event is commonly cited as one of history's most significant military defeats because it forced Confederate General Robert ES James Lee back across Virginia's border into North Carolina where he ultimately lost his chance to win a decisive victory over Union armies at Appomattox Court House two years later.

Hermosa Beach is a small town located in Orange County, California. The name comes from the Spanish word hermosura, meaning "beauty." The town was originally called Hermosa and then later changed to Hermosa Heights. In 1907 the San Francisco earthquake killed more than two hundred people in Northern California. As a result of this tragedy, the city of San Francisco offered to give Hermosa Beach land for a cemetery. This led to the town's name change back to Hermosa Beach. The first post office was opened in Hermosa Beach on April 15, 1908 by Wm. Ahern and Rufus Ewing. In 1914 the state legislature designated part of what is now downtown asortment for schools in order to keep them open during World War I; however, no school ever opened there because of the war and the money given to Hermosa by the city went into other uses such as buying arms for local soldiers and infrastructure development. In 1922 Los Angeles annexedOrange County which made Hermosa Beach a part of Los Angeles proper but it continued as an independent municipality with its own government until 1957 when it became one of 84 cities and towns annexed intoLos Angeles county during Prop 36 (the landmark referendum that created LA county). Today, most residents are citizens or residents who commute to urban areas outside of Orange County for employment or pleasure purposes only. The history of American industry in Southern California can be traced back through early transportation methods including Stagecoach stages that transported goods overland from Mexico City all up through Anaheim Canyon from 1849-1850 before being replaced by wagon trains due to Native American attacks along their way; trade with Central America took place via Trujillo Road at Point Sur where Indians met Mexican traders coming down the Pacific Coast Highway; while sea travel around Cape HornuitousLombard sailed past Santa Barbara Harbor on their way upriver Tochigi River estuary reaching Japan By 1854 there were five steamboats running between Lompoc/Los Angeles & Yokohama loaded with passengers& cargo
