Hesperia is a small town located in Inyo County, California. The population was 1,887 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Mono Lake metropolitan area. The Hesperia post office opened on December 3, 1879 and was closed on February 14, 1959. The first mail carrier to come through Hesperia was Bessie Weldon from Woodland Park, Colorado. Hesperia is named for General John C. Fremont who fought in the Mexican-American War and later became governor of California. He saw an opportunity to establish a dry goods store near Yuma River which would offer farmers food they could not get at home. This new business allowed him to buy land and build a mill which he named after himself - Hesperia Mill (now Town Hall). The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its position as a transportation center for travelers coming up the Yuma River Valley and its railroad connections with San Francisco and Los Angeles. The arrival of Interstate 5 in 1966 made it possible for people living in nearby towns such as Redding and Bishop to commute into Hesperia without having to leave their homes. Ashesville Elementary School was built in 1954 adjacent to the old Hesperia Mill complex; it has since been moved twice (to two different locations) within its original confines within the city limits of Redding while still providing instruction to students from Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade; however, now all school operations are conducted out of Building 3 (formerly known simply as “The Annex”), located just east of downtown across from Redding City Hall!

Hesperia is a small town in the eastern Mojave Desert of California. It is located on the east side of the San Andreas Fault, which separates Hesperia from Bernardino County and nearby Nevada. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit Hesperia were Spanish explorers who passed through in 1814 while travelling across the desert. The name "Hesperia" comes from ancient Greek words meaning "humble place." It was first used for a sheep ranch owned by Pio Pico before it was annexed by Californios in 1842 as part of Rancho Cahuilla. When Mexico pulled out of California in 1848, Hesperia became part of United States territory under Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, and then Mexican Territory after that. In 1862, John Wesley Powell discovered gold near today's Hesperia when he exploring for prospective miners in what is now Partido de la Huerta. In 1864, his son Kit Carson led an expedition into what is now Verdugo Mountains to prospect for water supplies and miner's rights around present-day Hesperia and Other Mines Districts but never found any gold or silver worth exploiting. However, Kit Carson's explorer brother-in-law Ishmael Reed did find two small streams that fed into Colorado River near present day Cathedral City and began mining them for lead ore starting in 1865; this opened up major new areas formining activity within central California during the late 19th century due to greater availability of lead ore than other minerals such as coal or uranium at that time. However, it wasn't until 1898 when Jedediah Smith discovered large amounts of oil shale southeast ofpresent day Petrified Forest National Park that commercial oil production could begin here; this triggered increased development within Hesperia and surrounding communities with land subdivisions being created specifically for oil production purposes beginning around 1900 such as Oil Field Road (now U.S Route 395). Although much smaller than later offshore drilling operations off southern CA during the early 21st century (due largely to technological advancements), Tesoro Bayou - one mile wide and 3 miles long - still remains one of North America's most important petroleum resources following its discovery more than 50 years ago
The Hesperia area was part of the Mexican province of Alta California. In 1821, it was ceded to the United States as a result of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The area became part of the new State of California in 1850.
