Hillsborough, California is a small town located in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 7,812 as of the 2010 census. Hillsborough is part of the San Fernando Valley region and has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 3000 years. The first white people to arrive in what is now Hillsborough were Spanish colonists who founded Mission San Fernando Rey de La Palma on April 14, 1769. In 1871, the Rancho Cucamonga land grant was given to John Sutter and his brother George. This grant included a parcel of land that became known as "Hillsborough". The first post office in Hillsborough was established in 1872. In 1907, the old Pasadena Courthouse burned down and replaced with a new one at 209 N Broadway Avenue. From 1909-1920, Hillsborough had its own school system which merged into the Pasadena public school system later that year. On October 15th 1938 The original Wembley stadium was built adjacent to present day Hillside Drive and east of present day Hollywood Boulevard on what is now Movie Valley Road (now called Lankershim Boulevard). It hosted both American football games played by UCLA during World War II (the Rose Bowl game) and also an annual international fair called "The Big Expo" which attracted more than 60 countries to its grounds from 1944-1946. During these years it also served as the home of Studio One Broadcasting Corporation's local radio station KROQ (AM), which originally broadcast from Building 3 on campus before moving upmarket to become KCBS-FM in 1951). On July 30th 1942 it was destroyed by severe fire after being hit by bomb fragments dropped during World War II bombing raids against Los Angeles
