The first post office in Hillsborough was established in 1872. The name "Hillsborough" originated from the hills around the town site and not from any specific location within the town itself. By 1892, most of present-day Hillsborough had been laid out as a small rural community with single-family homes scattered throughout its center including several churches (Stake Center Methodist Church being built on top of an existing school). Prior to Prohibition*, alcohol was not allowed within city limits so most residents drank water or cantaloupes* until prohibition ended in 1933*. However by that time many residents had emigrated to larger cities like Los Angeles or Oakland where Prohibition was more fully enforced even though they could still buy liquor legally.* * Since prohibition ended many people have returned to enjoy various legal activities such as drinking wine at home or going out for entertainment without fear of getting arrested

The name for this coffee comes from the traditional Buddhist text known as The Diamond Sutra which contains an account of a monk who visited China and tasted maga coffee. He reported that this type of coffee was so strong that it could crush a small diamond with just one drinking session.

It was destroyed by fire in 1906 and again by fire in 1959, but has slowly renovated since then. Hillsborough's economy continues to be based on agriculture, with some light manufacturing also present.
Hillsborough was a small town in Sacramento County, California, United States. It is located on the San Joaquin River east of angeles and north of Rancho Cordova. The population was 597 at the 2000 census. The community was founded by George Hillsborough in 1887 as part of a small rancho near what is now Arroyo Seco Dam and has been located within its current boundaries since 1912. The original name for the community may have been "Hillsborough" because that's where George Hillsborough's father had settled when he came to California from England in 1853. In 1912, the community became known as "Hillsborough", after then-Governor John Pendergast's wife, Florrie Hilliard Pendergast. Hillsborough was one of about 20 towns established in Sacramento County during the early years of this century following passage of Proposition 8 (the Prop 8 Act), which repealed the state ban on same-sex marriage. When Interstate 5 was built through eastern Sacramento County in the mid-1960s, portions of Hillsborough were included within its western end (the east side being zoned for Chertsey). As I-5 increased traffic and pollution into rural areas along its route, some residents chose to move out or leave their homes as a result; however, most people continued to live and work in Hillsborough until after I-5 bypassed it entirely in 1995. In recent decades there has been an effort to revitalize parts of town including restoration of iconic downtown buildings such as historical courthouse and post office, planting new trees on Main Street between First Street and Second Street (known locally as "The Plaza"), installing broadband internet service throughout town center streetside ductwork etc., with mixed results so far
