The museum has also preserved artifacts related to Operation Neptune's Spear which fought against Nazi Germany during World War II and includes artifacts from HMS Hood (D764), HMS Repulse (R58) and HMS Prince of Wales Cdr RNR (&HSK 7824). In 1977, an additional GHDU was deployed to Ft Stockton CA when it became apparent that there was an increasing demand for donation finds from civilians located near military installations worldwide. This led to the development of Project Goldfinch which allowed anyone who donated item(s) relevant to navy history or service during World Wars II through Vietnam era into eligibility for a free copy of full color cataloging information on shipwrecks/Gift History Units associated with those wars periodologies anywhere within 30 miles radius of any active navy installation or international seaport where such documentation could be found

Hillsborough is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,373 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Kern County and immediately to the east of Bakersfield. The name "Hillsborough" comes from Anglo-Saxon "hilsa" meaning "hillock," and "borough" meaning "town." The first post office in Hillsborough opened in 1879. At that time it was known as Red Bluff. In 1907, the name was changed to Hillsboro after Dr. George Hills Hopkins, who had been born there in 1838. In 1912, the General Electric Company built a plant there and named it after its founder, GE's president John J. Hill (1822-1911). The town site has been occupied by various businesses since then; most notably Kasey Lumber Company from 1946 to 1984 when it merged with Western Waters Industries to form WPI Holdings Incorporated (now Kasey Lumber Co.). In 1960, about one third of Kern County's population lived within five miles of Hillsborough; however by 2000 this figure had shrunk to less than one tenth of its pre-1960 size. Today most people live outside of Hillsborough proper or are commuters who access services either inside or outside of Bakersfield through Interstate 5 or Highway 395

The first recorded inhabitants of what is now Hillsborough were Native Americans who lived near present-day Hercules and Orinda. Fremont discovered gold near modern-day Concord and named it for General James Halleck, who had conquered Mexico City two years earlier. The town began to grow rapidly due to its location at the intersection of two important routes: One led from San Francisco via Livermore Pass past Lakeside and Antioch to Marengo; while another ran northwest from Concord through Pittsburg Landing and then down into Marin County before terminating at Sausalito. This growth created difficulties for future residents as much of hillsborough land was flat or low lying, making transportation difficult and providing no room for future development other than agriculture or small mills which could not compete with larger cities like San Francisco or Oakland
