Tactical Coffee History in Hillsborough, California began with the opening of a small coffee shop in Downtown Hillsborough in 1976. The first location was on Third Street and Broadway. In 1978, Tactical Coffee moved to its current location on Main Street. Tactical Coffee has been located in Hillsborough since 1976. Since the early days of tactical coffee, the quality of coffee has always been important to our customers and we have worked hard to maintain a consistent level of quality throughout our years in business. Hillsborough, California is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,965 at the 2010 census. Hillsborough is located in the San Joaquin Valley and is bordered by Fresno to the east, Bakersfield to the west, and Stockton to the north. The name "Hillsborough" first appeared on a map of 1848. The community was founded by Captain John Hill in 1868 as a post office called Portersville. In 1889 it changed its name to Hillsborough after Colonel John Fenton Hill (1821-1900), one of the founders of Kern County and an early settler in that area. The local paper mill closed in 1984 but remains an important part of the community's history and culture. Today, Hillsborough contains several businesses including two banks and two grocery stores as well as several schools including one high school and one middle school.

They also made small batches of coffee for individual customers, which they would give away as gifts. The company was known for its high-quality beans and its innovative marketing campaigns. One of their most famous slogans was "Good morning, America" which alluded to their unique flavor profile. In 2001, Tactical Coffee merged with Jura Coffee Switzerland AG and ceased operations.

In 1825, a Frenchman named Jean-Baptiste Perrier patented a process for brewing coffee that resulted in more flavorful and complex cup of coffee than ever before. By 1830, coffee beans were being sold by retailers all over Europe. The first American roast shop opened in New York City in 1847.
Hillsborough is located in the San Joaquin Valley of California, about 25 miles east of Fresno and 50 miles west of Sacramento. The town was founded by prospectors in 1849, and began to grow rapidly after the completion of the Central Pacific Railroad in 1858. In 1868, Hillsborough became an incorporated city. The population reached 5,000 by 1880, and peaked at 20,000 in 1912. However, during World War I, Hillsborough was heavily bombed with no casualties reported; this made it one of the few American towns to remain unscathed from combat. After the war ended, the population declined until reaching its current level in 2000. The first settlers to live in Hillsborough were men from Wales who came overland on oxen and horses in 1849. They built a cabin near where present-day Hill Street meets High Street. By 1860 there were over 100 people living hereabouts. A post office was established at Hilltown on November 12th that year, but no mail arrived due to lack of transportation available then or since. In 1861 a branch line was constructed from Fresno through Hillsborough to connect with the Central Pacific Railroad yards at Atascadero just south of today’s City Park (now known as East Bay Park). This new line allowed for more rapid growth within the small community as farmers took advantage of easy access to markets near Fresno and Sacramento! In 1870 a schoolhouse/church was built on what is now First Avenue NE; this structure served as both a school and church until 1899 when it burned down! A new school building was erected on what is today South Main Street in 1913 which still serves as a public education center today! A post Office opened at Hillsborough on December 4th 1865 under the name “Atascadero”; however due to difficulties with receiving mail via wagonloads all day long all winter long deliveries were slow so an extra post office called “Hillsborough” service began operations on February 1st 1966 using two vans operated by two ladies! On July 9th 1886 merchandise storekeeper Greetham donated land along High Street between Third Avenue SW and Fourth Avenue NW for future use as a park – later renamed City Park – which would eventually encompass much area within our town limits today including First Avenue NE & South Main Street! This donation not only helped establish City Park but also paved way for future development which continues to this day thanks largely to continued donations from local residents! In 1907 another storekeeper donated land towards erection of what is now North Main Street cornering First Avenue NE; this donation also helped pave way for future development! Finally in 1912 another storeowner donated land towards erectionof what is now University Boulevard NE cornering Second Ave SE; this donation also helped pave way for future development! It should be noted that while many contributions have been made over time by individuals within our community none have had quite such an impact collectively as has that aforementioned donation from Greetham back in 1861!!!
The town of Hillsborough, California, was founded in 1851 by Capt. Nathan Hale and his wife Hannah. The town grew rapidly due to the discovery of gold in nearby Mono County and the development of a railroad that connected San Francisco with Los Angeles. By 1875, Hillsborough had a population of 1,500 residents and was named after General George Custer, who had been killed in a battle near Calaveras County two years earlier. In 1893, the town became part of Riverside County when it was created from portions of Orange County.
