The Hollister Air National Guard Base is home to the USAF's 4th Bomb Wing and its detachment, the 1st Reconnaissance Wing. The wing provides reconnaissance and airlift capabilities for Operation Desert Storm in 1990. It also supported Operation Neptune's Spear in 2004, which was the first time that the United States had conducted such a wide-scale multinational operation in support of an international coalition against terrorism. It has also been used as a filming location for films like "Air Force One" and "". In January 1945, General Curtis LeMay ordered all AmericanAAF aircraft stationed at Hollister to be moved to RAF Bovingdon near London. This action was part of Project Mockingbird which aimed to reduce American troop strength in Europe by creating false evidence that war was impending. The move created a large animosity between the two services and led to open warfare during what would be called the Cold War era. During World War II, Hollister AFB housed both USAAF squadrons (4th Bomb Group, 5th Bomb Squadron) and RAF squadrons (2nd Tactical Bomber Command). After World War II ended on September 2, 1945, these detachments were combined into one unit - 4th Bomb Group - with headquarters at Hollister AFB. RAF Bovingdon became known as Hollister Army Airfield after it was occupied by the Armed Forces of Germany on December 10, 1945. On April 16, 1947 elements of Strategic Air Command moved from RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk England to Groveland Field near Dayton OH while experimental Long Range Reconnaissance units continued training out of Hollister but turned their attention towards strategic bombardment using Boeing X-15s flown by Major Glenn Hinson becoming operational on July 20/21 1948 when he took off from here for his first mission over Pyongyang killing 3 enemy civilians without loss or damage! In 1949 Grunvald accepted assignment as Deputy Director for Intelligence Community Headquarters Washington DC under Marshall McNamara who had replaced Truman just weeks before! On October 17/18 1950 9 BW Squadrons along withvisual intelligence squadron RC-135 flying supersonic RF-101H Flying Daggers were deployed overseas via Andersen Islands where they remained until May 1951 when all remaining AWACS Aircraft returned back home after being stored at Roswell AFB NM since 1948 When DoD centralized command structure Arrive!! The USAF based its global offensive role upon DJG F111As operational from Offutt AFB Nebraska working with Republic FockeWulf FW 190Ds from Fairchild AFB HI flying escort missions to keep allied bombers clear of friendly airspace!! During operations worldwide DJG flew sorties averaging per day 1500 milesiles 100% cover RNAF ground controllers direct fuel availability patrols escorting allies bombers nuclear strikes etc... additional duties included interception of hostile overflights over Japan mainland...... DJG ended operations onApril 15 1966 due to budget cuts however some assets continue thruactivated groups such as ATC control team G3(radar), C3 contingent support element (communications),installation force maintenance organization.... Aircraft oldest still flying is F-5E Tiger I original production model which flew date Jan 1955.......Instrumental note: This aircraft most likely prototype # EO-488...On November 6 1953 Cdr Wm S Giles CBE DFC made history when he became First Pilot To Land At Elmendorf AB With AAF Douglas DC9.....This event helped start jet age!!!

Hollister, Calif. is a small town located in the Sacramento Valley of California, bordered by its larger sister city, Rancho Cordova on the east and north, and Porterville on the west. At just over 2 square miles (5 km²), Hollister's population in 2010 was only 709 residents. The town was founded in 1868 by John Hollister as a post office named for himself and his brother-in-law, William G. Brownell. The current downtown core of Hollister dates back to 1907 when it was first built on land donated by George W. Crouse of Porterville. John Hollister died in 1865 and his wife Mary died four years later; their two children survived infancy and took up residence with their father until he died in 1874. They then moved into an adobe home at 555 Main Street which they shared with 10 other families before selling it to Jens Drysdale for $2,000 in 1876. Drysdale built an additions onto the house that remain today known as the Old School House Annexe which served as the town hall from 1907 to 1951 when it burned down; during that time it also served as a schoolhouse for grades kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1906 Hollister had its first store - A & W Grocery - open along what is now State Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets; this store closed about 1950 but is still extant as part of the local history museum complex near Interstate 5 south of town (see map). The growth of nearby Rancho Cordova led to increased demand for water rights around Hollister so an artificial well was constructed northeast of town in 1913 becoming one of California's earliest public works projects (the others being Hoover Dam etc.). Water access became important because much agricultural production took place around here including irrigation agriculture such as fruits orchards, grapes, cotton fields etc.; this required long days outside working in "waterlogged" conditions all summer long while farmers used wells inside town Limits while waiting out droughts or floods due to heavy rains or snowmelts snarled communication lines across Northern California mainline railroads ie: Doniphan Valley Railroad). With more people living close together within limits set forth by law instead of having separate lots/houses/yards/piles o' lumber yards near each other folks started developing social habits like joining forces for collective defense against raiders ravaging their area during those early days when there were no TV networks or movie theaters anywhere near these frontier towns... Today many descendants keep alive some things from these pioneer days like forming informal militia groups based on common interests rather than ethnicity or sectarianism!
