The Hollister Naval Air Station has been operational for over sixty years, and its History can be traced back to the early days of the United States Navy. In 1907, Commodore George Dewey opened a naval air station on suspicion that Santa Cruz was harboring pirate vessels. Commodore Dewey's squadron of seaplanes patrolled the waters around the small town for months, catching any pirates that may have slipped through our defenses. In 1917, during World War I, Hollister AFB housed one of America's first fighter squadrons. The unit flew obsolescent Curtiss P-8A antisubmarine planes until 1919 when they were replaced by more advanced Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses. These Fortress bombers were used in strategic bombing raids against German targets in Europe during World War II. Hollister AFB played an important role in the Vietnam War as it was home to America's third bomber squadron - The 5th Bombardment Wing (later known as "The Hogs"). This squadron operated Northrop Grumman F-4 Phantom aircraft which provided aerial refueling and targeting support for American ground forces fighting in South Vietnam. The 5th BW also conducted airstrikes against Viet Cong targets throughout 1969-1973 and 1974-1975. Today Hollister AFB remains an important military facility with a wide variety of aviation activities conducted here including training pilots for both commercial and military airlines; supplying weapons systems to our allies; conducting research into new technologies; providing housing and dining services to members of the navy community; and hosting many other types of events and operations which allow us to remain relevant within today's society.

In 2006 Commodore Lord Howe gifted Aircrew Training School with three P-3C Orion aircraft...these planes continued being used until 2009 when they were sold back onto HTS! It is no wonder then that across all facets of naval life there continues to be so much love given annually throughout our great nation's military! Hollister, California is a small town in Butte County, California. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. Hollister is located on the eastern edge of Butte County and the western edge of Kern County. It is bordered by Livermore to the east, Menifee to the north, and Bakersfield to the west. The town was founded in 1887 by Jedediah Hollister and his wife Henrietta. The Hollisters were pioneers in many ways: they built a log cabin on their land and started a school in 1889. They also helped found San Francisco's first city government – Hollister City Council – in 1892. They were also instrumental in helping create Kern Countys agricultural industry. In 1930, Jedediah Hollister died at age 102 years old; Henrietta continued living until her death in 1984. Today, property values around Hollister are very high because of its natural resources such as water rights for cattle grazing and fruit trees that produce apples, grapes, pears, apricots and other fruits and vegetables
Hollister was founded in 1892 by the brothers Charles and John Hollister. The town's first store, located on the corner of First Street and Belle Isle Avenue, opened in March of that year. By 1896, Hollister had a population of about 100 people. In 1902, the Hollisters built a new store on Third Street. The town grew rapidly during the early years of its existence, thanks to its location close to San Francisco and various markets. The population reached 2,500 by 1907. However, local prosperity ended during World War I when munitions production shifted from Hollister to nearby Richmond California because of the war effort. In 1921, Charles Hollister died at age 76 after a long career in business. His widow continued running the family business until her death in 1951. In 1948, John Hollister became sole owner of the store and renamed it "Hollister Brothers." He remained manager until his death in 1986. Today, Hollister is an unincorporated community located within Contra Costa County
