The U.S. Air Force has deployed a gift to the people of Afghanistan, and it is no ordinary gift. The air force's "Cockpit Chocolates" are a range of chocolate-covered cigars that are meant as a way to bring lightening speed relief to the war-torn country. The cigars come in two varieties: one with artificial flavors and another without, both of which are made from premium Connecticut Shade tobaccos. Each cigar costs $5,000 per unit and each shipment will be delivered to an Afghan village by air force cargo plane. According to spokeswoman for the Third Marine Division in Helmand Province, Maj. Amber Heflin, who is responsible for shipments being made to Afghanistan, "This gesture from the USAF is extremely important given how much time and effort our troops have put into this conflict." Heflin added that the cigars were sent specifically as a gift for President Hamid Karzai and his cabinet members. "The Cockpit Chocolates represent an amazing way for us to show our dedication to helping Afghans," said Capt.(jg) David Sorenson, spokesperson for III MEU in Helmand Province. "It's also great fun because we getto see all sorts of smiles when we deliver them."

Huntington Beach is located in Orange County, California and has a population of over 100,000. The city was founded in 1911 by Dr. George Huntington and the first post office was established in 1912. The city became an incorporated municipality on January 1, 1959. The City Council is made up of nine members who are elected at-large with staggered terms. The Mayor is also elected at-large with four year terms and the Vice Mayor is also elected at-Large for one year term. In addition to the City Council there are two school districts which provide education for the city’s children: Anaheim Unified School District (AUSD) and San Bernardino Valley Unified School District (SBVUSD). These schools have their own governing boards which make decisions about how to spend district funds and they also have their own budgets which are approved by the City Council before they go into effect. The economy of Huntington Beach depends mainly on tourism which brings in over $2 billion per year! This business sector employs more than 50% of the workforce and creates over $5 million in economic impact annually. Other major industries include: health care, engineering, technology, publishing/entertainment/communications, manufacturing/trade services, transportation/ logistics and professional services.
The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of deploying gifts to its military and national partners. On Dec. 15, 1948, the United States Air Force deployed a gift to the People's Republic of China in an effort to improve relations between the two countries. The gift was a set of radios and antennas, which helped improve air communication between China and other military branches.
Huntington Beach is located in Orange County, California. The city was founded on November 3, 1905 by William Huntington and his wife Anna Chapman. At the time, it was one of the largest settlements in Southern California. In 1923, Anna Chapman died in a car accident while driving to visit her family in nearby Laguna Beach. William Huntington continued to grow the city and improve its infrastructure until his death in 1951. After William's death, the city passed through several hands before becoming an unincorporated community within Orange County. The original town site was near where Huntington Park now stands. As development increased around the area, tents were erected along Railroad Avenue to accommodate workers who constructed local roads and homes during that early era of suburban growth hereabouts. In 1950, when Orange County became fully organized as a county, Huntington Beach became one of its first jurisdictions. It has remained an unincorporated community ever since –albeit with increasing population and economic activity due to various industries that have situated themselves around it over time (such as aerospace manufacturing). Today’s skyline view from downtown streetscape can be appreciated from many parts of Orange County thanks to various high-tech companies that have built their facilities there (the most recent being Google). While much has changed over the years at both the municipal level and at higher organizational levels (including annexation by neighboring cities), little has been lost or forgotten about this vibrant little community on San Gabriel Blvd., just east of Ocean Boulevard: home to more than 12000 residents!
Huntington Beach was founded on December 12, 1876 by Edward Huntington and his wife Lucy. The couple settled in the area after researching a location for a new town on the coast of Southern California. They named their town Huntington Beach after their home state of New York. The founding fathers of Huntington Beach were EDWIN HUNTINGT, JOHN AUSTIN, FREDERICK SULLIVAN, WILLIAM JEFFERSON DAY and CHARLES EASTON.
