The Huntington Beach Army installation gift history can be traced back to the early days of California. The land that is now Huntington Beach was first purchased by the Spanish in 1769, and it would not be until 1821 that the first permanent military presence in what is today Huntington Beach was established. At this time, the area consisted of a small rancho and a few scattered settler homes. It wasn’t until 1849 when Mexico ceded California to the United States, which led to an increased sense of militarism among Americans. In response, Congress passed the Military Reservation Act of 1850 which granted military land concessions to various companies across America. One such company was General James Katell’s Santa Anita Company which purchased some 6,000 acres in what is now Huntington Beach. As part of this grant, Katell agreed to build an army garrison on his lands in order to protect American citizens from Mexican attack. This new military outpost would come to be known as Santa Anita Arsenal or “Fort Mims” for short. It would serve as a base of operations for American soldiers during both world wars and later become home to US Naval Forces Pacific Fleet Headquarters during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Today, Fort Mims remains one of Santa Ana County’s most popular tourist destinations with its classic architecture and interesting history - perfect for hosting events like birthday parties or reunions!
Huntington Beach is a city located in Orange County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 67,598. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The city was founded on December 3, 1911 by Mervyn and Lillian Stevenson as a small community named Belle Terre on the then-Pineapple Coast of Anaheim County. Huntington Beach became an incorporated city on July 1, 1954. The name “Huntington Beach” derived from John Sutter’s 1839 purchase of 6 acres (2 hectares) of land off Mission Bay for $1,000 from José Vasconcelos and his brother Francisco de la Torre y Pacheco. The first post office in Huntington Beach opened in 1912 and continued until it closed in 1917 due to the Great Depression. The first school in town was open for instruction in 1913 and remained that way until near the end of World War II when it was replaced by what is now known as North Park School #4 which served children up through grade 12 before being closed down due to lack of students during World War II. During World War II there were also several factories built here including Alcoa (now aluminum), Kaiser Aluminum Company, PCH Shipbuilding Corporation and Warner Bros Pictures could be found processing metal at various sites throughout town while other businesses such as Jell-O began production shortly after Pearl Harbor along with a few stores like Gertrude Stein’s Chinese restaurant serving food items only to locals during this time period but soon stopped when war halted trade with China making these restaurants illegal which led to their closure although some reopened over time. One popular locality that changed hands frequently during/after WWII were sales pitches for different real estate interests starting out with Pacific Heights followed by what is now Little Tokyo then finally Central Avenue where many Korean immigrants settled beginning around 1950 giving rise to another local interest market during this time period called Koreatown which continues today albeit beneath Angelenos more recent influence given its growing presence within East Orange/Northridge as well as nearby Fullerton thus continuing what would become one continuous commercial corridor stretching all the way from downtown Anaheim out into Santa Ana until eventually terminating at Perris Boulevard outside Downtown LA
