In 1959, Huntington Beach resident Don Norman opened the first local roasting company in the area. The original Don's Coffee Company was a small, family-owned business that roasted and bottled its own coffee. The early years of Don Norman's company were difficult; during those years, he struggled to make a profit due to high prices for beans and expensive shipping costs. However, through hard work and perseverance, Don Norman's company grew into one of Huntington Beach's most successful businesses. Throughout the years, Don Norman has continued to support his local community by donating money to different charities and giving back to the community in many ways. In 2018, he donated $1 million to the Huntington Beach Foundation in memory of his father. Today, Don Norman's legacy lives on as one of Huntington Beach's most notable businesses – from his early days when he started roasting coffee to today where his coffee is enjoyed by all who visit our city. On December 3rd 1959 Mayor Harry Bunn announced that they had successfully petitioned to become a city and were now authorized to begin building streets and gates! In less than one year they had annexed 1/2 mile (3 km) of then-slender shoreline as well as 2 blocks inland from where Angels Harbor now stands - all while maintaining their strict residency guidelines which still apply today! This towns initial population was just over 50 residents however by 1961 it had grown to more than 100 thanks largely to newcomers such as Mrs. Caryl Churchill (mother of Prime Minister Winston Churchill), Mr./Mrs.(now Mrs.) Don Latham Sr., Bud Whitehurst and others who made quick decisions about relocating here after witnessing the incredible success that HBN had enjoyed since its incorporation into our great community! In 1963 when Disneyland opened up shop in Anaheim Ca., many people decided that “Huntington” needed its own amusement park too!! With plans in place for what would become known as Walt Disney World – Imagineering produced art deco-style buildings designed by architect Milton Bradley which served as both home offices for WDW managers plus an amusement park with all sorts of rides & games!!! With so much happening in our community, it wasn’t until 1978 when we celebrated 25 years ofcontinuous growth & progress – becoming one of OC County’s most vibrant cities ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! #BringItOn
