Huntington Beach is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 81,863 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Orange County by population and has been growing rapidly since its incorporation as a city in 1966. The first humans to live in what is now Huntington Beach were Paleo-Indians working for the Tongva people about 12,000 years ago. At various points during their history they traded with other tribes and built trading posts along the coast of Southern California. The area that would become Huntington Beach was first settled by Europeans in 1839 when Henry Purdy became the first white person to inhabit what are now Huntington Beach Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. By 1849 there were two small settlements: Janesville on Promontory Point (now called Newport Coast) and Wiener Neustadt on Signal Hill (now known as Seal Rock). In 1860, following annexation by Los Angeles County, much of this land became part of Pasadena which then had a large Indian population due to waves of immigration from India during that period. In 1916, City Councilman John Blythe founded southsiderealtycoastalousportationandleisurecompany which would become one of the most successful real estate companies in town history. Huntington Beach is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 113,846 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Orange County and the third-largest city by population in Los Angeles County. Huntington Beach is also one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Southern California. The first European to visit what is now Huntington Beach was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on November 14, 1542. He sighted land that would eventually become Huntington Beach on December 12, 1542 while sailing from Santa Catalina Island to Monterey Peninsula. On July 20, 1876, Leland Stanford gave away 1/3 of his large Rancho San Vicente de las Flores parcel of land including much of today's downtown and portions of present-day Huntington Beach for $15 per acre to John Doremus and George Wager Straus for their development into a town named after Mr. Straus (the donation being recorded at City Hall). The first permanent settler in what would become Huntington Beach was James Purdy who arrived on August 17, 1874 from Cincinnati with his family and two cows. His farm stretched from Canoga Park Boulevard eastward to Newport Boulevard southward to SR 1 which he called "Purdy's Prairie." Mrs. Purdy prepared fresh milk daily for her husband and six children living on their farm before they set out each morning for work on horseback Every evening they brought back dinner pails full of milk which they ate cold at their house before going off to bed. No refrigeration was then available or even possible so puddles formed during wet weather when cow manure would pile up around them overnight due to lack of wind erosion control measures during those days 12 years later Michael Murphy moved into Section 9 lot number 4 (now known as North Pointe Drive) which fronted Canoga Park Avenue between present day First Street and Harbor Blvd., just north of where High School now stands . Murphy started operations as a grocery store/canned goods business with his brother Normandie Burke operating the other side of the street corner . In 1906 Michael Murphy built himself a 6-room Tudor style home at 5200 North Pointe Drive (then unknown as North Pointe Drive) that still stands today . In 1907 Michael Murphy married Hilda Mae Kelly who preceded him in death by four months . fatherless Hilda Mae Murphy never remarried but bequeathed her three acres southeast corner lot #4 along Harbor Blvd., adjoining section 9 Lots #2 & 3 above mentioned , plus some other Improvements thereon immediatelyISSUE: Who Owns This Property?
