It quickly grew into one of the most affluent and popular communities in Southern California. The city’s coffee scene is firmly rooted in its history and culture. Gourmet Coffee is a term that has been used to describe coffee products from around the world, but especially those originating from certain regions of central America. In Huntington Beach, gourmet coffee refers to roasts that are carefully curated and made with only the highest quality beans available. The first commercial coffee shop opened up in Huntington Beach in 1959. It was called The Nook and it served only roasted beans from Central American countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, and Ecuador. At the time, there were very few places outside of LA that could offer local roasted beans like this. Over time, more shops popped up all over town offering their own unique cup of Joe- whether it was for breakfast or afternoon tea. By 1984, there were over 25 gourmet coffee stores scattered throughout downtown Huntington Beach! This proliferation of businesses helped fuel the growth of the city’s coffee Scene which still thrives today!

Coffee beans were first roasted in 1876 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte at his plantation called Rancho de la Mesa. In 1933, Harry Jaffe established the Jaffe Coffee Company which became one of the largest coffee companies in the United States. The company operated its own roasting and manufacturing plants until it merged with Peet's Coffee to form Peet & Friends Incorporated in 1994. In 1997, Starbucks Corporation moved into Huntington Beach and began operations there.

The first Europeans to visit what is now Huntington Beach were the Spanish in 1769 and the French in 1769-70. A small community was formed around Point Mugu Lighthouse in 1876, but it declined during the next century because of its distance from major metropolitan areas and lack of transportation links. In 1957, Orange County set aside land south of Harbor Boulevard for what would become Huntington Beach as part of a land deal with then-Mayor Rudy Ruiz Jr.. The development became reality in 1959 when construction began on what would become Southern Pacific Railroad's (SPR) new line from Fullerton to Santa Ana. In 1961, SPR established itself as a major player in Orange County by opening its newest golf course – Cypress Hills Golf Club – within walking distance ofowntown Huntington Beach. Cypress Hills quickly became known as one of southern California's premier golf courses; it still remains one today. In 1984, then- Mayor Dianne Feinstein announced plans for a masterplanned community called Miramar which would have spanned much of Downtown Los Angeles - including portions of Pasadena - between Century City and downtown Hollywood . However , this project never came to fruition . In 1990, another masterplan proposal called "The Harbor" was unveiled by Mayor Tom Bradley that centered around creating an entertainment district extending along Harbor Boulevard from Newport Coast Boulevard to Seal Beach Blvd., near LAX Airport This plan received some support but ultimately failed due to opposition from local businesses who didn't want their districts encroachment upon

Huntington Beach's history dates back to 1876 when it was founded as Ralstonia Beach by James Purdy and his wife Eliza Cunningham. The name changed to Huntington in 1903 after two brothers bought land near the original beach and built a summer home there. In 1909, the City of Huntington Beach was incorporated and in 1916, it annexed much of neighboring Malibu Peninsula including present-day Newport Beach. On December 12, 1984, both towns merged into one city under the name Huntington Beach.[1] The city has been known for its beauty and Mediterranean atmosphere since earlysettlement days. Merchants from Santa Monica set up shop in what is now downtown in 1887 because they could not compete with prices charged by rivals inland for goods procured from abroad via ship or otherwise.[2] By 1900, local trade had helped make Huntington "the most beautiful small town on earth",[3][4][5] with well-preserved architecture dating back toMission Revival style buildings erected between 1880 and 1925:[6] some still standing today (e.g., Leisure World amusement park).
