In 1933 the then President Franklin D Roosevelt dedicated part of King's Highway between Newport Coast Boulevard in Seal Beach and Seal Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach as "President Roosevelt Boulevard". The name stuck until 1978 when it was shortened to "US 101" following a renaming campaign by then-Governor George Deukmejian
