Huntington and his brother-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Warkentin. The original name of the town was "Cape Canaveral". The City of Huntington Beach was created from parts of two other towns: Dana Point and Laguna Niguel. Huntington Beach's first mayor was Arturo Fernandez who served from 1959 to 1961. In 1966, the City Council adopted an ordinance that designated the downtown area as the city's business district and granted tax breaks to developers wishing to build in this area. In 1978, when Honda Motor Company decided to move its Anaheim assembly plant away from downtown Anaheim due to pollution concerns, they donated land adjacent to Huntington Beach for the new plant which would become Honda Center/CenturyLink Park (later known as Honda Stadium). On October 7th 1976 - also known as "Honda's Birthday" - Mayor Arturo Fernandez announced plans for a brand new park in downtown Huntington Beach called Centennial Park which would include a large open-air swimming pool named after him along with several restaurants and nightlife venues including a movie theater and theme park based on Japanese anime characters called Anime Land USA
