Huntington Park, located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California is a city of over 113,000 people. The city was founded by George Washington Hunt in 1867. The current mayor is Hahnemann Jaramillo. As of the 2010 census, Huntington Park had a population of 116,746. It is home to many large companies such as Yahoo! and Intel. There are also several small businesses and professional athletes that call Huntington Park their home. The neighborhoods that make up Huntington Park are spread out across four quadrants on the north side of downtown: Westwood Village, Midtown City Centre, North Hollywood and East Hollywood. These neighborhoods have been through various types of redevelopment since they were first established as agricultural villages in the late 1800s. The first development in what would become Huntington Park occurred in 1865 when George Washington Hunt bought five acres of land at 6th Street and Western Avenue for $2 per acre. Hunt built what would eventually become his mansion called "Belle Isle" on this property which he purchased from John Sutter for $10 per acre ($160 per square foot). Belle Isle was originally intended to be an amusement park but it did not reopen until 1909 after being redesigned by architects contributing to the Pasadena firm of Burnham & Root with help from German immigrant August Von Stein (1821-1905). In 1868, anotherGeorge Washington Hunt acquired 11 acres at Fairfax Avenue and Central Boulevard for $1 per acre which he named "Park Place". This land later became part of Midtown City Centre where General Motors Corporation moved its headquarters from Flint Michigan in 1945 before being replaced by Apple Inc.'s new campus there in 1996 just blocks away. On July 15th 1905 Mayor James Moberly dedicated Midtown's First Baptist Church following plans submitted by architect Ira Eaker who also designed South Pasadena's original Presbyterian church building now known as Stonington Hall Shopping Center #2 off Hyperion Ave.. In 1907 Midtown's Second Baptist Church was dedicationd at 5th Street and Western Avenue following plans submitted by architect William Atherton . The Huntington Park, California history begins with the first people who set foot on the land that would later become Huntington Park. The area now known as Huntington Park was first inhabited by the Gabrieli family of Italian immigrants in 1848. In 1869, a group of American miners located in what is now San Bruno started to develop their holdings and began trading products from their mines and quarries with local villages near them. One of these villagers, John Cranch, offered to buy the land from theGabrielis for $10 per acre. With this offer in hand, Pemberton and his brother-in-law James Wirt took action to purchase the land from John Cranch. They organized a group of men and women called "The Pioneers" and traveled throughout Northern California preaching Christianity to Native Americans who were then living on reservations scattered around the state. After traveling through many different townships in Southern California they arrived at what is today Huntington Park on November 25, 1872. On December 5th, Pemberton laid out a town square which would eventually become home to over 150 homes. The town was named after General John Cranch who had made this offer for it. Over time, there were several businesses established within or around Huntington Park including: A&W Root Beer Store (1875), Wirt’s Furniture (1876), Jardine Glass Works (1877), Indian Chief Hotel (1879), Central Pacific Railroad Station (1901), Hoover Dam (1912) and more! Many of these businesses remained in operation until they either closed down or moved away during various waves of change throughout Orange County during the late 1800s and early 1900s such as Prohibitionism which caused many brick buildings in DowntownHuntingtonParkto disappear; however some such as A&W Root Beer Store(which still operates today)remained open until recently despite being subject to numerous code violations over time! During World War II, many residents served in military service including those who worked at Lockheed Aircraft plants located nearby like Advents Air Force Base(now Big Bear Airport)and Rockwell International Missile Plant(now OEM). Additionally, other industries which have shaped our community include oil refineries located across streets like East Coast Oil & Gas Company(now ChevronTexaco)and Western Refining Company(now Phillips 66). Today’s economy has seen much growth since its inception with new restaurants and bars opening up along El Camino Real as well as an increase in development taking place within walking distance of downtown!
