Huntington Park is a small city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 31,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles area. Huntington Park was founded on October 21, 1887 by J.P. Huntington and his brother-in-law George Hinkle as a town in Rancho San Bernardino east of present day Ontario City. In 1912 it became an independent city and changed its name to Huntington Park after J.P.'s father, Sam Huntington Sr., who had homesteaded there in 1875. The city's economy is dominated by the manufacturing sector with companies such as McDonnell Douglas and National Semiconductor located in downtown Huntington Park and other areas of the city center. Huntington Park, California is a city in San Joaquin County, California. It occupies the eastern edge of the San Joaquin Valley and has a population of 113,731 as of 2010. The city was founded in 1853 by General John L. Huntington and James W. Savage as part of Rancho Las Vegas de las Palmas de los Andes. In 1872, the City of Huntington was incorporated as a separate town within rancho Las Vegas de las Palmas de los Andes. The first post office in Huntington Park was established on November 3, 1853. The first settler in the area was Captain George Aiken who built a cabin on what is now known as Aiken Gulch near present-day Midway Boulevard and West Side Highway. In 1854, Captain Aiken's son Josiah built an adobe house at what is today Midway Boulevard and Avenue T (later called Old Pasadena Avenue) to serve as his father's home until he moved to nearby San Francisco in 1865 after becoming president of Alta California Land Company #2. In 1871, General John L. Huntington purchased Rancho Las Vegas de las Palmas de los Andes from Manuel Nieto for $4,000 plus costs for land north of Los Angeles; this led to the city's incorporation on December 14th that year with its current name Honorato Lopez Plaza (Lopez Place). On March 12th 1870 voters approved annexation by Los Angeles into county due to fears that if it were not annexed then "the rich men would buy out our towns" - an issue that still exists today with such large tracts of undeveloped land within the city limits
