Huntington Park, California is a city located in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 137,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Madera-Rosamond, CA metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Huntington Park was George H. Smith who arrived on January 2, 1887. At that time the town was known as "Sierra Nevada." In 1888 the town changed its name to Huntington and included present day parts of Fresno and Moberg counties. On May 8, 1902, it changed its name again to Huntington Park after Major General George Armstrong Custer who had been killed in battle two years earlier during the Mexican-American War. The city's motto is "E pluribus unum" meaning "out of many, one." The city's economy has always been based on agriculture with some manufacturing also taking place including printing presses and bicycles made by Chanute Bicycle Company which still remains a prominent presence in the community today. Huntington Park is located near Interstate 5 just outside Fresno and provides easy access to both major cities as well as points eastward such as Modesto and Turlock.
