Navy gifts have been a part of the Huntington Park community for over a century. In 1898, Commodore George Dewey sent USS Constitution and USS Olympia to patrol the San Francisco Bay. The donation of two warships by Commodore Dewey was an event that continues to be remembered in Huntington Park. Navy gift history can be traced back even further, to 1851 when the California Battalion of Volunteers was organized in Huntington Park. From then until 1965, Naval Auxiliary Base (NAB) Huntington Park served as the homeport for Destroyer Squadron 7 (DESRON-7). DESRON-7 was responsible for conducting anti-submarine warfare operations off of Long Beach and Ventura County. It is through their contributions that navy gifts have stayed in the community and donated to local organizations throughout the years. Today, there are several navy gift institutions within Huntington Park. The USS Constitution Museum has been operating since 1978 and preserves artifacts from Commodore Dewey’s ships as well as additional naval gifts from other countries during this time period. The USS Olympia Museum also offers exhibits on maritime history with explanations on each ship’s mission and LST(L) donations during World War II. This museum is open every day except Mondays from 9am-4pm and admission is free for all visitors! The USS Constellation Museum is located adjacent to NABHuntington Park which opened its doors in 1984 as a Maritime History Center focused on providing education about maritime history with an emphasis on naval vessels from around the world. There are also numerous park programs dedicated towards navy related interests such as Sailors Day at NABHuntingtonPark which takes place annually on June 14th, Fleet Week at NABHuntingtonPark every May, Marine Corps Day at NABHuntingtonPark which honors Marines who serve in our military, Blue Angels fly over Naval Air Station Point Mugu every July 4th, Coast Guard Days at both Naval Air Station Point Mugu and Harbor Modern Pier where various services offer displays about coastal security issues etc., etc.. The Huntington Park Naval Shipyard, now part of the University of California at Irvine, was founded in 1887 by Rear Admiral John T. Browne as a naval shipyard and dry dock complex on the shores of Point Conception. It began production of wooden warships and became one of the largest shipyards in the world. The Yard produced battleships such as USS California (1896), USS Maine (1902), USS Texas (1906),USS Oklahoma (1910) and USS Arkansas(1915). It also built submarines like HMS United States (1912) and HMS Cerberus (1920). In 1915, Huntington Park joined forces with Newport News Shipbuilding to produce submarines called United States Navy Submarine Squadron 15. The squadron's first submarine, SS "Alabama", arrived at the Yard on October 2, 1915. Huntington Park Naval Shipyard closed its doors following World War II but reopened in 1951 as part of the UCI campus. The yard produced both American-built ballistic missiles like YF-6B Taichi and KH-8BNand Soviet Union designed ballistic missiles like SSC Biryakovskaya 4M/S1KG.. In 1962 it was merged into UCI’s School of Engineering & Science which is still responsible for arms control defense research today.

Huntington Park is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 847 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1892 by Russian-born brothers Ivan and Mikhail Khodorkovsky as an agricultural outpost on Rancho Cuchuma. In 1905, it became part of the City of San Bernardino. The city was incorporated as a town on December 10, 1912. On April 15, 1951, it became a city and remains one to this day. The first store in the town was built by J.S. Drake & Sons on May 4, 1892. A post office called Huntington Park opened in 1893 and remained in operation until 1907. The name derives from Russian khutor (town), meaning "farmstead". Not long after its incorporation into the City of San Bernardino, Huntington Park started receiving mail from Pasadena and other nearby townships and villages located east of Interstate 5 on what is now known as Old Spanish Trail Road (now Foothill Boulevard). In 1915, Manuel Landa bought all of Rancho Cuchuma north of present day Huntington Park for $1 million - making him one of the richest men in Los Angeles County! In that same year also saw construction of the first major building in downtown: the old courthouse/ jail which still stands today next to City Hall! In 1925-1926 local entrepreneur Art Buchwald developed what would become known as Orange Crush candy bars from his own Hardee's restaurant chain; these became very popular with locals and tourists alike due to their unique flavor profile (a mix of sweetened condensed milk with orange juice concentrate). After years manufacturing several hundred thousand boxes per month for his own Candy Bar Co., Art moved production factories to new facilities near Anaheim Hills during World War II because he knew that war would result in increased demand for candy bars overseas; however when hostilities ended there were no increased export opportunities so he returned Production back to his original locations within two months! Huntington Park experienced rapid growth following incorporation into city limits; between 1920 and 1940 population grew from just under 1,000 people to over 20,000 residents! By 1930 over 60% of all businesses within walking distance had been established! One can only imagine how well things would have continued if not for some core issues such as socio-economic segregation which limited access to education for many African Americans who made up much of the community’s makeup at that time; ultimately leading to alarming rates cf crime & social unrest including riots that occurred twice within five years consecutive throughout 1932-1934!!! On July 1st 1948 Mayor John Matson approved annexation by El Monte which then allowed development pressures along El Monte Boulevard adjacent to downtown preventing any contiguous development around either side!! This led directlyto infamous “Lynch mobs” consisting primarily Of Mexican American youths lynched by white citizens or their employers without provocation or indictment anywhere within El Monte boundaries – resultingin mass homesickness among many Latinos& longtime permanent Anglo/Caucasian residents alike !! Continued attempts culminatingwith Measure B being placed before voters during November 1958 resultedin yet another referendum rejecting annexation byEl Monte thereby effectively ending any redevelopment potential northward beyond assumptionary bonds issued through eminent domain!!! As a resultof this seminal eventover 70%+ OF ALL BUSINESSES IN HUNTINGTON PARK ARE LOCAL OWNED AND OPERATED!!!!!!!!!
