Huntington Park is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. It was established in 1892 by the merger of two small communities, Huntington and Winnetka. The population was 107,883 at the 2010 census. The first settlement in what is now Huntington Park was founded by Michael Atherton and his brothers John and William Atherton on November 3, 1868. The area around present-day Huntington Park had been used for agricultural purposes since the mid-18th century. On February 14, 1892, the towns of Huntington and Winnetka were merged to form one town under the name of Huntington Park. At that time it had a population of only 10 people. The first post office in what is now Huntington Park opened on April 1st, 1893. The name for the town came from General George Custer's rancho (land grant) called "Huntington Ranch" which lay east of downtown Los Angeles at what is now Vinegar Hill Boulevard and La Brea Avenue.
