The history of the Imperial Beach Air Force Base began in World War II. At that time, the United States Military had an exclusive treaty with Japan to provide military aircraft and other supplies for their war effort. The Japanese were so impressed by American technology that they ordered more planes than could be made in the USA, which led to America entering World War II without any equipment from Europe. In 1945, the United States Air Forces was created under President Harry S Truman as part of the post- WWII reconstruction process. The task force was directed to take over all remaining USAAF facilities in California. The first unit stationed at IBAF was a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber squadron commanded by Lt Colonel John F Stennis. In 1947, IBAF became a jet base when it acquired two Republic A-4 Skyhawks and four Republic P-47 Thunderbolts from USAF Eighth Air Force. These jets equipped IBAF with its own airfield and support infrastructure including hangars, shelters, barracks, medical units and ammunition storage yards. During the Cold War era (1946-1991), IBAF played an important role in providing airlift and fighter protection for government installations both within California and around the world. It also played a significant role in Operation Desert Storm which resulted in Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait on August 16th 1990 - this event is considered one of the most dramatic moments in US military history. After years of growth and modernization, IBAF celebrated its centenary year in 2005 with several commemoration events throughout California including: speeches by then Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger; ribbon cutting ceremonies at HQ AFB;air shows at Edwards AFB;a multianskied international peace observance at Temecula Valley Airport;and highlights program on October 3rd 2006 during National Defense Authorization Act hearing before Subcommittee on Appropriations House Committee On Armed Services

The Imperial Beach Air Force Base gift history begins on July 1, 1944 with the donation of a Boeing bomber to the base. The bomber became known as the "P-47 Thunderbolt." On November 2, 1945, the California National Guard flying squadrons were activated at Imperial Beach and donated four P-51 Mustangs to the air force. These planes became known as "The Golden Eagles." In 1957, the United States Navy gifted two F4U Corsair jets to Imperial Beach for use by both military and civilian operations. These jets are now stored at the base. In 1990, the United States Marine Corps gifted two Humvees to the air force for use in domestic law enforcement activities.
Imperial Beach, California is a city located on the San Diego-Tijuana border in southern California. The population was 86,786 as of the 2010 census[1], making it the seventh largest city in Southern California and second most populous within Imperial County. It is also home to many high-technology companies and research institutions. The downtown area has been called "the Silicon Valley of the South" because of its concentration of technology companies, such as Intel and Qualcomm. The history of Imperial Beach goes back to 1885 when Isabella Wright founded a trading post on land that later became part of Imperial County. In 1907, an agricultural fair was held at the beach, which led to the founding of a commercial fishing company by J.P. Morgan and others. In 1916, an oil well was drilled in nearby Abundance Field and began production; this led to Imperial Beach becoming known as "the Oil City". In 1951, when overseas military forces pulled out from mainland America, their own administrators developed plans for what would become Unified County; these included annexing portions of San Diego County (including Imperial Beach) into Unified County so that more people could be brought under one government control. This plan went into effect on January 1, 1952[2]. However, due to opposition from some residents - primarily those who lived near US Naval Base Sealife Point - it wasn't until May 15th that voters approved annexation by voting 54% in favor over 46% against[3]. This vote marked the beginning of a long process through which various communities within Unified County were annexed into Imperial Beach; eventually all but two (San Juan Capistrano and Redondo Beach) were annexed between 1955 and 1959[4][5][6] while Seeley Air Force Base remained under Navy jurisdiction until 1994[7]. It contains over 280 items including a Boeing B-29 Superfortress Bomber and an F-14 Tomcat fighter jet. 3) The USAF Fairchild Republic A-12 Intruder Attack Aircraft was given to AFRL (the American Flying Research Foundation) by Lockheed Martin in 1984 as part of their "Good Neighbor Program." This aircraft is still used today by USAF purposes and has been featured on several television shows such as "Dancing with the Stars" and "The X Factor." 4) In 2001, General Electric donated two E-8 Joint STARS Aircrafts to the USAF's Operation Northwoods Detachment at Edwards AFB, California in support of Special Operations Forces operations during the September 11th terrorist Attacks. These planes were used for surveillance and support roles during Operation Neptune Spear 08/09/2001. 5) In 2011, United Technologies Corporation donated two C-130J Hercules Airlift Planes to AFRL (the American Flying Research Foundation). These planes were originally flown by United States Air Force personnel during World War II before being passed down to AFRL via donation from United Airlines Company fleet members backed into retired inventory status back then!

Imperial Beach is a city located in the County of San Diego, California. The population was 83,542 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Southern California and has been visited by many famous people, including Presidents George Washington and Franklin D. Roosevelt. The first Europeans to visit Imperial Beach were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and Lopez de Legazpi on October 8, 1521. The Spanish built a small Mission San José de Colón on shoreline of present day Imperial Beach on October 16, 1769. A year later, Mexico gained independence from Spain and changed their name to Mexico City. On November 4th 1846, as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Ulysses S. Grant awarded land for military posts along what is now US-Mexico Border Boulevard (now I-8). One such post was Fort Point at the mouth of El Paso Creek in present day Imperial Beach which became known as "Fort Point" because it guarded this point between Los Angeles County and Mexican state Baja California The first Anglo settlers arrived in what is now Imperial Beach on December 11th 1875 when Henry Cranch arrived with his family from Canada via Lompoc Cove on horseback after being shipwrecked off Comox Peninsula near Vancouver Island during winter season aboard HMS Surprise It wasn't until 1915 that new Municipal Building was erected at Fifth Street & High Street which served as City Hall until 1917 when a new building called "The Gables" replaced it due to fire damage caused by an arsonist . In 1924 the City Council moved into their current location with acquisition of Lots 1 through 5 from Mrs. Jennie Moulton who had donated them In 1934 Mayor John Witherspoon designated Anacapa Boulevard (now US-101) as "Providence Drive" in honor of Lady Empress Elizabeth Bowring who had made a large donation to help improve public transportation throughout SoCal On January 1st 1951 all Marine Corps barracks were closed due to budgetary cuts following World War II . This left Naval Station Sealife without any active duty Marines or sailors . Since then Navy Yard has been responsible for all marine repairs/maintenance within town limits During 1959-1964 there was only one night per month where Naval Base Sealife could not be used due to high winds so tents were set up outside just inside town limits !! During those years Electricity came exclusively from power lines running through downtown ! In 1966 Municipal Court started using Public Utilities Department lawn mower service instead of own equipment which allowed us to keep our grass looking neat !! In 1970s we added two pool areas behind municipally owned golf course .......Today our city services include Police Department street patrol; Fire Department suppression; Water Management; Parks & Recreation; Streets Dept.; Health Services; Zoning Administrator .........and more!
The Imperial Beach area was first settled by the Ohlone people in the early 1800s. In 1884, the town of Imperial was founded on land that now includes much of the present-day city of Imperial Beach. The town grew rapidly and by 1900 had a population of over 100 people. By 1920, the towns of Pacifica and San Pedro had established themselves nearby, and so too did Imperial Beach.
