Imperial Beach, California is a city located in Southern California and was founded by the United States in 1929. The population of Imperial Beach peaked at 114,868 in 2010, but has since declined to 98,713 as of 2019. The city is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the east and south, the San Andreas Fault on the north, and City of Industry on the west. It occupies an area of 9 square miles (22 km2). The first people to live here were Native Americans who hunted small game near where it now stands. Soon after European settlers arrived in what is today Imperial County they began to build homes and farms. By 1851 there were over 20 white families living around Point Sur Harbor. In 1871 Spanish traders discovered oil near present-day Imperial Beach and started production which led to heavy industry development throughout this time period including shipyards, foundries, breweries, banks and other businesses. It wasn't until 1925 that America's first airfield was established at Point Mugu when Boeing Aviation moved their plant from Seattle Washington to make their planes here. Unfortunately during World War II much of this activity stopped as American military produced more planes than could be made here at point Mugu so all aircraft production shifted inland towards Willow Grove AB outside Philadelphia PA. After World War II came a new era for Imperial Beach with many residents moving into jobs in Northridge then Riverside following passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which created a large pool of unemployed men across Northern California looking for work in our highly taxed state. In 1969 Imperial Beach became official US Naval Base when USS Porter moved out from Newport News VA where she had been based for 41 years prior to her move ashore. Today nearly every type of Navy vessel can be found moored or anchored along various waterfront areas making it one of busiest naval bases on Earth providing support for Marine Corps forces worldwide as well as hosting international events such as NATO conferences etc.. All this activity has caused some environmental concerns however recent developments have seen a reversal with plans being announced for a massive expansion/ cleanup project that will see land taken away from residential neighborhoods adjacent to navy yards while also creating huge infrastructure projects such as an expressway connecting downtown with nearby beaches thereby allowing commercial developers access to these coveted shorefront properties without having any impact on quality or availability of life within those neighborhoods

In 1945, Imperial Beach was incorporated as a city and has continued to grow since then with an estimated population over 2,000 people today.
