The Air Force's history in Imperial dates back to 1917, when the United States joined World War I. The war brought a great need for military personnel, and the Air Service was born. By 1919, the Air Service had become an all-volunteer force. In 1924, Congress created the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to consolidate many of America's fledgling space programs into one organization. The newly created agency needed aircraft and pilots to support its ambitious goals, so it contracted with Boeing Aircraft Company to build two types of new airframes: the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator bomber. In 1942, during World War II, Emperor Hirohito issued Order No. 945mushi concerning volunteer units within the Japanese Army for conversion into air forces under American command. On July 30th of that year, Lieutenant General Curtis LeMay assumed command of Ninth Air Force (the first AmericanAAF) at Yokota airbase in Japan from General Leslie Groves who had beenWINDSTORM Commanderduring Pearl Harbor attack LeMay immediately began preparations for Operation Matsuwa which would be his "war against nature" campaign against Japan's growing population centers in Burma and China as well as their vast underground cities supplying food and munitions to her enemies on both sides of the Pacific War On September 16th 1944 Major General James Halsey became Commanding Officer Third Wing/8th Air Force at Andersen AFB near Guam after serving as Deputy Commander Amphibious Forces Southwest Pacific Area Halsey organized his wing into three groups; First Group comprised AAF squadrons Nos 111–113; Second Group comprised AAF squadron Nos 314–319; Third Group comprised AAF squadron Nos 331–333 Allied bombers attacked major targets throughout Japan including Tokyo’s Shibuya district where incendiary fires were started by Japanese soldiers burning lives out of coal mines working day and night in order to save their families from starvation . Many people died as a result of these raids such as city planner Yoshio Sugiura who was killed while designing plans for a new station near Shinjuku called Yoyogi Park which housed an amusement park that was also used by Japanese troops during operations . During this time Admiral Chester Nimitz concurrently served as Supreme Commander Allied Expeditionary Forces Europe (SCAEF) responsible for all strategic forces leading up to Normandy Invasion

The Imperial Air Force was founded on February 6, 1912 as the California National Guard. On April 12, 1942, the California National Guard and United States military forces were merged to form the U.S. Air Force when World War II began. The Air Force became operational on December 8, 1944.
The history of Imperial, California stretches back to the early 1800s. The area now known as Imperial was surveyed by Captain George Vancouver in 1789 while exploring the region. In 1821, General Mexican War veteran and politician José Joaquín Murciélago purchased land in what is now Imperial County from the Lipman family. Murciélago named his new county after himself, Emperor of Mexico City. By 1848, most of present-day Imperial had been organized as a town and it was incorporation as a city on January 15,1853. The city's first mayor was John A. Woolridge. At its peak in 1872, Imperial had an estimated population of 506 people and ranked second behind San Francisco in terms of population size and economic power. With rapid growth came social unrest; by 1865, the number of riots had increased to six per year. Despite this stability problem (and occasional outbreaks of violence), by 1870 Imperial had become one of the wealthiest cities in California with a GDP greater than that of any other city except for Sacramento. In 1881–82, following passage of the Personal Property Tax Act – which targeted wealthy Californians who used their assets to pay property taxes rather than keep them invested – heavy rioting erupted throughout much portions of the state over efforts by local officials to enforce wartime regulation forbidding private ownershipof firearms within city limits (the so-called “Gun Bill”). After weeks or even months' notice to all residents via open letters and posters published in newspapers statewide, military forces were called in under orders from Governor James Buchanan to restore order without using force; however nooses were hanging from downtown buildings until late morning on January 25th when order finally arrived not to use force despite widespread looting and destruction across town (see also: “Murder at Empire”). By 1883 most major businesses including banks had closed down due largely to boycotts initiated by citizens working together with merchants from other nearby cities such as Oakland and San Francisco who saw this development as another signs that California was slipping away from them into Handsome Jim's hands (Handsome Jim later became governor). Some highlights from various gift Giving occasions include: Christmas Day 1945 - A Lockheed P-38 Lightning bomber for General Curtis LeMay 's command squadron at Offutt AFB; April 3rd 1948 - The first McDonnell F4U Corsair jet fighter aircraft delivered by United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE) under Project Northrop; January 20th 1959 - The first Boeing 727 Airliner delivered into service by United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE) under Project Apollo; September 11th 2001 - The President George Bush Presidential Library And Museum dedicated their Samuel Adams Brewery building which housed two 747 Dreamliners for use as visiting planes during Operation Neptune's Spear; December 18th 2008 - First delivery of two Boeing 757 Aircraft into service with United States Air Force Academy Squadron #1 at Colorado Springs Airport; October 15th 2009 - Republic F-16 Fighting Falcon received delivery from Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space Company via March Executive Flight Test at Edwards AFB

Today, Imperial County remains one of California’s most prosperous regions, with strong economic ties to surrounding counties as well as neighboring countries. The area has seen significant development over the years - both commercial and residential - which has helped make it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. In addition to its rich history and vibrant culture, Imperial County is also home to some beautiful beaches – perfect for swimming or sunbathing – as well as someofthemost pristine landscapes in California.
In 1851, the Arizona Gold Rush began and quickly brought people and resources to Imperial Valley. The town of Empire was founded in 1852 on land that had been donated by Don Miguel de Alta California. By 1860, the settlement had grown to include a hospital, school, brewery, cattle corral and several other businesses. In 1865, the first post office was established in Empire. The town continued to grow until it reached its peak during World War II when it had over 10,000 residents. However, after the war ended and the population decreased due to factors such as agricultural production and climate change, Empire declined into obscurity until it was revived in the 1990s as an attraction for visitors. Today, there are few remnants of Empire remaining but it is still a popular tourist destination with programs like exhibits at the nearby Alhambra Historical Park that explore its history and culture.
