The California National Guard was established in 1862 as the San Francisco County Volunteers. It became a national guard unit on April 14, 1872, when it was created as part of the Department of Defense. The first national guard detachment in Imperial Valley was organized on December 1, 1875. The first regiment to serve in the field during World War I was the 3rd Infantry Battalion (California), which served from 1916-1918. In 1933, the 2nd Regiment of Infantry (Californian) were amalgamated into the 1st Regiment and later reorganized as an infantry battalion again. In 1946, both battalions were consolidated into one regiment and redesignated as 2nd Regiment of Infantry (National Guard). During World War II, the regiment participated in all three campaigns - Normandy, Southern Italy and Burma - earning four battle stars and two citation awards. From 1942-1945, concurrently with their activation for war service under President Harry S Truman's Executive Order 9981 "Allocating Resources for Defense of The United States", these soldiers also raised money for relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy which struck New York City on October 29th 1946. Afterwar service included duty at Camp Pendleton until its closing in 1951; then at Fort Lewis until its closure in 1957; finally at Yuma Proving Ground where it remains today as part of Army Reserve Command's 5th Brigade Combat Team Most Valuable Unit award program

The California National Guard was organized on December 12, 1851. The original unit consisted of 5 Companies and 100 men. The first national guard unit to be stationed in Imperial was the 1st Battalion, "A" Regiment of the California militia. On October 25, 1860, the regiment became Company D of the 3rd Infantry Infantry Regiment ( regulars ). In 1865 it became Company E and in 1867 it again became Company D. In 1893, when the state seceded from the United States, all units within the state militia were ordered to disband and individual soldiers organized into regiments or battalions. The 1st Battalion (Regulars) of the Imperial county National Guard became part of Regimental C battalion of 9th Infantry Regiment (regulars ) under command of Major General J B Cooke at Camp Kearny near Sacramento. In 1898 this battalion joined with 2nd Battalion (Regimentals) from Alameda County to form 1st Regiment California National Guard under command of Col George W Custer who had previously served as Commandant at Ft Sill in Oklahoma Territory
Imperial, California is a city located in the Southern Tier of California. The population was estimated at 66,371 as of 2019. It is the capital of Imperial County and home to the University of California, Riverside. The area that would become Imperial was first populated by Native Americans who lived near present-day Fresno and Bakersfield. In 1847, when Mexico acquired control over California, part of it including the area now known as Imperial became part of the new Mexican state of Alta California. In 1853, following the admission of Arizona into the Union as a U.S. state, governor Manuel García Matamoros issued an proclamation ordering all citizens in Alta California to take up arms against any intruder or reconqueror seeking to annex their territory. This order led to what is known as "The Battle for Empire" which resulted in Mexican forces being defeated by American troops under General Winfield Scott at Chiriqui Pass on August 29th 1853. After Mexican independence was achieved in 1912, Californios began to arrive from all parts of Mexico with intentions of establishing themselves here as well and this led to increased development around town (including land purchases). In 1915, plans were made for a hydroelectric dam on Blackwater Creek which would have created an employment base for builders and residents alike but due to protests from local farmers and environmentalists it never came to fruition. Instead a community hall was built on top of Hillcitrope Dam which eventually fell into disrepair until 1970 when it was replaced by the current building which seats about 500 people inside and out (plus overflow spaces). The original dam also served as a storage facility for agricultural products before finally ending up filled with water deemed unsuitable for human consumption after years spent leaking onto farmland adjacent to Interstate 5 northbound between Needles and Yuma Counties) In 1982 King County purchased majority interest in Hillcitrope Dam from its previous owner who had been unable or unwilling to maintain it since they became county officials; however all operations remain owned by King County until relicensed by federal authorities pursuant to Section 8(a) thereof “for purposes such as emergency disposal” The structure has not been used since then aside from occasional inspections/ repairs necessitated by changing conditions within its confines On July 15th 1870 – just days after Pacific Rail reached Long Beach through Rancho Cucamonga - several hundred men walked off their jobs at two mining camps along Big Tuolumne River because they did not like what they saw happening downriver: smallpox cases were soaring among miners working below Fillmore Barracks camp; many workers believed that company owners were deliberately infecting employees with smallpox so that they could force them off their jobs without compensation... On September 10th 1870 more than 1,000 men deserted Fillmore Barracks when their employer announced plans to build a road above them instead... On October 16th 1870 construction commenced on Willows Road between Fillmore Barracks and Lone Pine; immediately upon completion much resistance occurred from both miners living closeby who saw this road development as another attempt bycompany owners pretexting needing access 2 miles upstream towards Tubbs Mill so that they could power nearby mills... By early 1871 Company Directors realized they needed better transportation options if they were going ever goingto expand rapidly so proposals were made for taking water cars downriver instead [the proposal failed]; alternative proposals includedconstructing ladders 600 feet high allowing people ro climb up beside riverbanks during heavy rains] One possible reason why large numbers Of labor quit fillmore barracks during these initial months may have been due directly or indirectly (but likely simultaneously) TO Smallpox reported among Cannonball Mine's workers however no evidence exists PROVING this connection AND suggestions continue today TOThis event remains oneof history's most mysterious & un answering mysteries

Imperial, California was founded in 1847 by John C. Frémont and named for his then- province of Mexico. As a result of the Mexican-American War (1846-48), which ended with the victory of General Ulysses S. Grant over Mexican forces at Chapultepec Hill, Imperial became part of the United States. The city's first mayor, James W. Richardson, served from 1851 to 1861; during that time it had a population of around 5,000 people. After Richardson's death, Mayor George Hearst took office and ran the city on an authoritarian streak that caused friction with other local officials and residents. In 1865, Hearst was replaced by Mayor Benjamin Fenton and his brother Charles as leader of Imperial City government; they remain in that position to this day. In 1876, after Proposition 8 was passed by California voters to prevent gay marriage within the state, Imperial experienced one of its highest levels of immigration ever: more than 1,500 people from all over North America moved into the city between 1870 and 1880 alone. This influx led to changes in both social structure and cultural hegemony within Imperial; after years where many Anglo-Saxon elites controlled much political power due to their wealth and privilege, immigrants began coming from a wide range backgrounds including Mexicans (of diverse social classes), Italians (Classical liberals who wanted modernization through education/the arts), Jews (who desired protection against antisemitism), Chinese workers (who were looking for upward mobility in an economy dominated by white men), Native Americans (many seeking land as compensation for losses suffered during the American Revolution) and others who could not easily assimilate into mainstream society. In 1889 Governor Hiram Johnson signed legislation creating what is now known as Highway 395—the first major development in Imperial since its incorporation into the United States—and helping spur further investment in infrastructure such as schools and hospitals while also attracting new businesses such as automobiles manufacturing plants along State Route 95A north of town. By 1910–11 business activity had increased so much that downtown almost reached saturation point; however growth slowed down beginning around World War I due largely to prohibition efforts spearheaded by President Woodrow Wilsonads successor Franklin D. Roosevelt – though some new businesses did arise following repeal including trucking company Oldsmobile Motors Corporation – until finally reaching its current level again during World War II thanks largely to military recruitment drives conducted by Kearny Mesa Naval Air Station south of town coinciding with increasing demand for housing near naval bases throughout California active during that conflictsuch as San Diego Naval Shipyard just south of town on Mission Bay). During post-World War II decades there have been several large projects undertaken within or adjacent to Imperial such as Interstate 10 freeway construction starting in 1951 concurrent with rapid growth seen across much southern California leading upumption specifically near Victorville no less resulting significant increases residential density outside town center however recent trends suggest this may reverse back towards prewar levels although still high compared especially neighboring Riverside County
The city of Imperial, California was founded in 1869 by Captain George Goodwin Maxwell and his wife Julia. The first post office in the area was established in 1872. In 1886, the city became part of Riverside County. The population grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s, reaching over 100,000 by 1910.During World War I, Imperial served as an assembly point for soldiers traveling to fight in Europe. During and after the war, the city experienced a boom period with construction projects including a new hospital and streetcar system. In the late 1920s and 1930s, Imperial experienced another growth spurt due to its location on State Route 66 which made it a popular tourist destination. In 1951, Emperoramexico Incorporated was formed to develop businesses within Imperial County that would expand into other parts of Southern California. In 1969, City Council passed an ordinance amending city charter to allow for annexation by other cities within Riverside County. This increased the size of the City from 1 square mile to 3 square miles (or about 60% of its current size).On October 15th 2014 Mayor Bob Filner announced he would not seek re-election after much public outcry over his handling of various scandals
