In the early 1990s, when the United States Air Force deployed its largest air force in history to Operation Desert Storm, Indio was a strategic location for the air arm. The city served as a hub for resources and support for USAF aircraft deployments to Saudi Arabia and other combat areas. The city also grew as a cultural center for the military community. During the deployment of Operation Joint Task Force Pacific (OJPAC),Indio became an important stop on USAF logistical routes that stretched from North America to Southeast Asia. The city's busy streets and business districts were filled with military personnel, their families and friends who came to enjoy local cuisine, see displays of American technology and take in performances by popular entertainment figures such as Don Henley and Bruce Springsteen. The city has since seen a rebirth as an international center for aerospace engineering, research and development. In recent years, Indio has become home to numerous major aerospace companies including Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company; Boeing Co.; Lockheed Martin Corporation; Northrop Grumman Corporation; BAE Systems plc.; Honeywell International Inc.; ATK Inc.; General Electric Company; Siemens AG; Allianz SE&P SA; Toyota Motor Manufacturing Japan Co., Ltd., among others. These companies have brought new life to downtown Indio and helped make the City of Industry one of California's most vibrant economic regions.

Indio, California is a city located in central California and the most populous city in San Diego County. The population of Indio was $146 million as of 2010, making it the ninth most populous city in the US. The area now comprising Indio dates back to 1853 when Rancho Indios was claimed by José Garza y Costilla. In 1876, parts of what are now downtown and east Mesa were annexed by Indio while other areas such as Willowbrook and Point Loma were detached and became separate townships. As part of the process of annexing adjacent municipalities, new streets were named after prominent Californian citizens or institutions such as Judge George P. Brownrigg (Willowbrook), George Noyes (Mesa), J.P. Morgan (Point Loma) and General John Pershing (Downtown). In another annexation ceremony on November 5, 1912, portions of East Mesa became part of Chula Vista following a vote by the City Council over whether to annex that location or retain jurisdiction over its own affairs with property holdings stretching from Old Town Park northeast to Mission Valley northwest. On January 1, 1935, much of eastern Mesa was annexed into Indio along with three other municipalities: Carlsbad Caverns National Monument; El Cajon; and Imperial Beach pursuant to an act entitled "An Act for Annexationof certain Municipalities within San Diego County" which had been passed earlier that same year by then-Governor Earl Warren on behalf of Mayor James Irvine. On January 15th following incorporation into the City proper by Ordinance No. 9887 which repealed sections 10(a) through (e) of Municipal Code No. 1571 providing for special election procedures for incorporations more comprehensive than simple merger proceedings instituted under Chapter 911 thereof typified by reference thereto previously heretofore made hereinbelow at various places throughout this City having failed therein aforetime to provide effective voting qualifications thereby subjecting all such incorporations hereinto said election procedures thereby creating instead an oligarchy amongst ourselves whereby only those incorporations duly registered hereinbefore may have their say in said elections hereby giving effect thereto without prior notice or hearing whatsoever being given any shareholder thereof having no right whatsoever to participate therein save through proxies duly appointed aforesaid under penalty therefor
In the early days of the United States Air Force, gift history was a relatively new and undeveloped area. While there were some prior examples of air force members receiving gifts, it was not until after World War II that any regular or significant gift giving occurred within the service. The first major gift given to an air force member was a box of cigars purchased by General Omar Bradley in 1945. The modern air force Gift History can be traced back to 1989 when Colonel Rick Easley became the first USAF officer to receive a personalized watch from Rolex, Incorporated. This memorable gesture marked an important milestone in the relationship between the USAF and Rolex, as this was then their only outside customer. To date, over 1,000 individual gifts have been given to USAF members byRolex representatives specializing inairforce gifting. While there are many different types of gifts that can be gifted to an air force member, one common theme is refreshment or morale boosting items such as cigarettes or candy bars.
