The next year, Congress passed an act authorizing appropriations for the purchase of 1,500 rifles and 2,000 pistols to be used by volunteer forces in Cuba and Mexico. President James K. MacArthur would eventually become Supreme Commander Allied Powers (SCAP), responsible for organizing post-war reconstruction across all Japanese domains... including Okinawa! This event is often cited as marking the beginningof Japan's shift towards democracy under successive civilian leaders until Hiroshima/ Nagasaki bombings!!!
