Inglewood is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 117,711 as of the 2010 census. It is located in the southeastern San Fernando Valley region of Southern California and bordered by Fullerton to the west, Sylmar to the north and Sherman Oaks to the east. The name "Inglewood" has its roots back to 1876 when it was called Indian Wells. In 1896, an American Express company depot was built at what is now Garfield Boulevard and Western Avenue in what is now Inglewood. In 1907, a post office was established at Inglewood with Wm. Hargrave as your first mail carrier. On July 16, 1909, the name of the city was changed from Indian Wells to Inglewood after James Cogswell became mayor of Los Angeles County and offered his land for a city site on which to build a new town center. On November 15 of that year – just days before Thanksgiving – Mayor Cogswell's original land grant included a large lot on which City Hall would be built—later renamed Park Row (now Civic Center Drive). The building’s cornerstone stone set into Page Field Road near current-day North Glendale Avenue served as the location for what is today City Hall’s main entrance from Wilshire Boulevard (then known as State Street). The park across from City Hall had been home to several cemeteries until developers added much needed open space in 1922-23 when Ahmanson Cemetery opened on present day Westchester Drive between Santa Monica Boulevard and Eastern Avenue NW/NW corner of Beverly Hills Boulevard.) The original lobby doors were made out of red granite quarried in Simi Valley; these doors still can be seen at front entrance of City Hall today! From 1916 until 1978, when it merged with neighboring Fullerton into one municipality under then-Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's administration, Orange County had its own government separate from that within Los Angeles County... while full control over affairs within both counties vested with county supervisors (and ultimately) local politicians through their individual districts... during this time period many Pasadena residents living south of Gwynn Oak Avenue voted not to rejoin their old county because they felt they were being taken advantage of by Villaraigosa's powerful friends in Orange County who essentially ran their county without them... accordingly votes were given by district board members rather than directly via referendum or vote by all registered voters... however annexation did eventually take place due largely to pressure exerted by citizens groups working together with Villaraigosa following Rosellini's death in 1984." -"Annexation: An Unsung History" by Steven Jaffe

Inglewood, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 103,716 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the city of Los Angeles and is bordered by Carson to the north, Hawthorne to the east, South Pasadena to the south, and Warner Robins to the west. The area now known as Inglewood was part of Rancho Niguel until 1848 when it was given to José Miguel Cisneros and Vicente Guerrero. In 1881, John Pemberton bought Rancho Niguel from Cisneros and began selling land around it for housing development. When he died in 1901 his heirs divided his estate among themselves with 49% going to James Wylie Dowling who built much of what is now downtown Inglewood. In 1928 Hollywood producer Harry Cohn purchased 8 acres (30 hectares) near downtown Inglewood from Dowling for $5 million dollars. This site would eventually become Hollywood Park. In 1933 Cohn teamed up with Paramount Pictures head Nicholas Ray and movie studio president Vincente Minnelli to open American Cinematheque which became one of largest movie theaters in America. In 1937 documentary filmmaker Edward Dmytryk shot "The Actors" on location in Inglewood at American Cinematheque. That same year renamed Regal Drive-in opened nearby on North Lincoln Avenue serving as a filming center for many Westerns including Gene Autry's "Cowboy Bebop", Elvis Presley's "Elvis," Rod Serling's " Twilight Zone ", and Jackie Gleason's "I Dream Of Jeannie". Dowling had also developed a large residential area called Blackhawk Hills that extended into Lynbrook Village northwest of downtown Los Angeles then continued northeast into Sherman Oaks adjacent to Culver City Boulevard before ending at La Brea Ave outside Beverly Hills near Topanga Canyon National Recreation Area
