Inglewood is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 107,572 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of San Fernando Valley and Central City and is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country. It contains many military installations, including Vandenberg Air Force Base and Edwards Air Force Base. The city was founded by American soldiers who fought during World War II. The first US military installation in Inglewood was Fort Myer near present-day Beverly Hills. Camp Arguello (later Camp Pendleton) followed in 1950; this site served as both an artillery range for the US Army's 1st Cavalry Division and home to Marine Corps Reserve elements until 1957 when it became an active Marine Corps base with detachments of other branches of service. In 1965, Fort Irwin opened as a United States Army infantry brigade combat support center (training ground), part of I Regular Army's 5th Infantry Division then being organized into three brigades under Lieutenant General Maxwell Taylor Jr., commander of US Forces Europe (USFET). On 21 May 1966, I Regular Army's 3rd Brigade Combat Team arrived from Fort Drum (New York), replacing 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines which had beenactivated at Marine Barracks Quantico after World War II ended. It was renamed the Inglewood Army and Navy Museum in 1948 after United States Marine Corps General James E. Hill. The museum has an collection of over 2,000 items from the United States military including artifacts from World War II, the Vietnam War, and Operation Neptune's Spear.
Inglewood, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 153,713 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. It is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in America, with nearly half its residents being of another race or ethnicity. The original inhabitants of what would become Inglewood were Native American tribes who called it "Moccasin Bend." The first European to visit what would become Inglewood was José Manuel Nieto on April 12, 1784 while exploring San Bernardino County for the Spanish Empire. In 1847 Mexican land grants were given to ranchers who founded Rancho Cucamonga east of town and named it after their friend and mentor Father Juan Bautista del Valle y Pico. A post office called Indio was established in 1851, but no permanent settlement grew up around it until 1871 when an influx of Anglo-Americans led by Captain John Sutter created a town called Windsor Heights west of town. By 1881 Inglewood had developed into a small village with a store and two churches. In 1908 Pasadena annexed part of neighboring Sherman Oaks so that both jurisdictions could have an airport within their borders; this annexation changed Inglewood's name from Windsor Heights to Pasadena Airport (which still exists today). On December 15, 1932 President Herbert Hoover signed legislation creating Riverside County as one county within Los Angeles County with jurisdiction over all but unincorporated areas south of Interstate 10 (the western edge then included parts now known as Compton and Hawthorne). Most people living in these areas continued to call themselves "ranchers," however some started calling themselves "city folk." This change wasn’t solely because developers wanted more homes; many people liked living close to work so they could walk to three shopping centers: Robertson Road/Airport Rd., Victory Blvd./Cahuenga Ave., and North Hollywood Blvd./Evelyn Ave.. However due to growth in these areas – especially North Hollywood – City Hall moved from Robertson Road/Airport Rd.–and began tower building on Topanga Canyon Boulevard which didn’t end until 1951! In 1947 Whittier combined with other southern towns forming new city government districts including Downey Hills, La Crescenta Valley, Studio City and South Gate which eventually became Westchester Beach during the early 1960s when those communities were annexed by Newport Beach . Finally Canoga Park annexed by Industry in 1962 which left onlyresidential enclaves left outside downtown following later annexations by Carson City (1964), El Segundo (1966), Fullerton (1969), warrensburg(1971) and Norwalk (1973). During through decades there has been movement towards incorporation such as East L.A.'s proposal for cityhood back in 1955; proposals originating out of Compton also received support during this time period before ultimately dying due lack political will throughout much Southern California due largely to corporate control over elected officials at that time… although Population Control Research & Development Corporation managed operations between 1961-1968 they exited urban scaled efforts effective immediately upon taking over operations resulting primarily from increasingly open housing policies enacted pursuant thereto .) After yearsempty planning meetings voters finally approved Measure F –initially proposed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa–to form Arroyo Seco Township on November 3rd 2006 via Special Election thus becoming the second largest municipality formation ever conducted in Los Angeles County… Despite oppositionfrom virtually all sectionsofthe community charter amendment process residents overwhelmingly ratified ordinance #2ablishingArroyoSecoTownshipviaBallotmeasurein November2006

Inglewood, California is located in the southern San Fernando Valley and is one of the most cultural and historical cities in Los Angeles County. The city was founded in 1887 by James W. Inglewood as a small town on the east side of Hollywood Boulevard. It grew rapidly due to its location and natural resources, becoming an important center for entertainment and film production in the 1920s and 1930s. In recent decades, Inglewood has experienced significant economic decline, with many of its residents moving to other areas in Los Angeles County or outside of California. However, it remains a vibrant community with a rich history that deserves further investigation. The city was first populated by Native Americans who hunted game around present-day Higueras Avenue and Olive Way. The area now known as Inglewood was first visited by Europeans during Spanish exploration in 1769 when Gaspar de Portolà explored what is now Hollywood Studios. A small village named Ejido began developing near the mouth of Bunker Hill Road in 1847 after Mexican grantees began purchasing land from Southern Californian Missionaries. By 1853, there were over 100 people living in Ejido including 25 Spaniards, 10 Mexicans, six Chinese men (including one who became president of Mexico), four Indians (all farmers), three women (pregnant women being among them), two children under eight years old, and four dogs. In 1857, following Mexicano General José Antonio Conquistador's Expedition to Sonoma County In 1867 George Eldridge built a house on Laurel Canyon Boulevard which served as headquarters for several early movie companies including Pickering & Company which produced new silent films at Agnes Street studios until 1907; Edison Manufacturing Company which made electric lightbulbs at 6200 West Olympic Drive; delay company American Tobacco Company owned by John Duryea which manufactured cigarettes at 5333 Lankershim Blvd.; First National Camera Company led by Adolph Zukor who produced short subjects such as "Doro" at One hundred thirty Second Street; Third National Pictures Corporation formed to produce Westerns starring Robert Culp at eleven thousand feet above sea level on Mount Wilson; Palomar Pictures Corporation leased from Goldwyn Pictures Inc., Educational Films Service leased from Pathé International Film Services; Paramount Motion Picture Industries formed from these companies to produce feature films using Eastmancolor technology Courtesy: UCLA Digital Library ingleswold@umnahcnet
The first white person to live on what is now Inglewood was Abraham Lincoln, who lived in a cabin on the edge of the forest there in 1846. The area became part of Mexico after the Mexican-American War, and then part of United States after California gained statehood in 1850. The city was founded as a small community called Industry in 1872 by farmers looking for an accessible port on the Pacific Ocean. It grew rapidly with its new harbor and shipyards, until it reached its peak population of 150,000 in 1920. However, during World War II the city declined as shipping stopped coming and factories closed down. In 1948 Inglewood merged with other nearby cities to become one large city under the name of Los Angeles.
