Inglewood is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 116,711 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city and county seat of Los Angeles County. The name "Inglewood" comes from two English words,ingle (a small piece of land) and woodruff (the hard wood of an old tree). In 1887, Waring Hargrave donated deed No. 4 to what would become Inglewood. At the time it consisted of only 640 acres (250 hectares). The first settler in what would become Inglewood was John Wesley Powell in 1892. He named his property North Inglewood after his home town near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England which he had visited on his journey through America. The first store in what would become Inglewood was opened by Jens Møller on May 12th, 1889 at 8th Street and Western Avenue. The store became known as the Mantle Store because its owner, Jens Møller, gave away all of his profits to charity every year. Eventually other stores followed suit with names such as Goudy & Company (1901), Pabst Brewery (1920), Hollywood Hardware Co.(1925), Eagle Drugstore(1929) and finally ABC Stores Inc.(1963). By 1920 there were over 20 stores operating in what would become IngleWOOD alone! In 1922 Pasadena City Councilman Tom Bradley proposed that the city annex part of southern Inglewood so that it could be served by one municipality instead of having several separate municipalities within each county courthouse district represented by different council members who did not always have investment interests within their districts including those belonging to Pasadena! However this annexation proposal never came to fruition due to objections from then-Pasadena Mayor James Rolph who feared that if the annexed area became too populous he would have to compete for slots on LA's council with other municipalities! In 1933 when Cecil B DeMille moved production of Laurel Canyon movies from Universal Studios back into his own studio located across from Warner Bros Pictures eastward along Burbank Boulevard until it crossed under Exposition Boulevard into Sherman Oaks; many people believed that this move signaled a new age for Hollywood where movie moguls could now control entire neighborhoods without interference!!! This rumor has been proven false as no documentary evidence exists proving MGM ever wanted or needed control over Sherman Oaks!! On October 14th 1950 Mayor Ralph Yarborough dedicated a new park called Chavez Ravine Park just southwest of downtown following years long planning efforts led by Drs Harry Wexler and Jerome Robbins both physicians associated with UCLA Medical School who also happened to live closeby! Drs Wexler and Robbins were instrumental in helping create Chavez Ravine Park which today remains one of Angelenos favorite locations for relaxation and relaxation!!!

The name "Inglewood" was chosen because it was located on a bend in the Santa Clara River. The City of Inglewood was incorporated on November 10, 1881. The first mayor of Inglewood was Wm. H.
