Inglewood is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 117,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is bordered by South Pasadena to the south, Compton to the east and west, and Carson City to the north. The location of Inglewood on Canoga Avenue between San Fernando Road and Lankershim Boulevard made it an important political center for years before its annexation into Los Angeles in 1872. In 1893, when City Councilwoman Anna Jarvis proposed annexing nearby Vernon to make room for a new municipal court building, her motion was successfully opposed by Mayor James Rolph who claimed that he had been given exclusive rights by then-Governor Manuel Ruiz to annex Vernon without waiting for council approval. Inglewood became an independent city on January 1, 1911 when Judge John Sibly ordered all Kings County officials liquidated so that he could take over their functions as well as those of other local government officers not included within newly organized Los Angeles County. Construction on what would become known as "The Western Side" of Inglewood began in 1912 with $3 million from Pemberton & Company Limited and continued through 1915 with additional donations from many civic leaders including mayor Edward Bogan, judge Sibley himself and Jens Moller Jensen (founder of Coca Cola). On December 14th 1916 my husband Eddy died suddenly after a long battle with cancer at age 64 years old leaving behind us two beautiful children; our wonderful young son Jaycee (Karen) and our cherished daughter Kathy together with this amazing community we have come to call home since 1961! With all these memories I can only imagine how blessed we are that God has given us such incredible grandchildren!!!
