The Air Force has a rich history in Irvine, California. The first units of the Air Force were organized under the Bureau of Aeronautics Act on December 12, 1942. The Air Force was created on September 3, 1946 and activated at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. It was then moved to Rangoon AFB in Burma and activated there on January 15, 1947. Inactivated on October 31, 1951 when the Korean War ended. On February 17, 1957 an A-7 Corsair airplane flown by Lieutenant Colonel John Hodge collided with a KC-135 Stratotanker over North Korea and both planes crashed into the sea killing all six crew members aboard the KC-135. On July 1, 1958 an F-4 Phantom fighter aircraft flown by Major General James E Swenson collided with an A-3 Skyraider bomber over South Vietnam and both planes crashed into the ocean near Da Nang AB killing all 11 onboard the F-4 Phantom as well as four of its pilots. This was one of many collisions between USAF jets and aircrews during Operation Rolling Thunder which took place from 1968 to 1973 against North Vietnam. In 1969 Republic Aviation Corporation (RAC) leased Boeing 727 jetliners from United Airlines for aerial refueling operations over South Viet Nam during Operation Rolling Thunder II. These flights were used extensively to support USAF units flying combat missions in support of UVA’s “Providential Squadron” while they underwent their accelerated training program at Luke AFB outside Austin USA In 1971 Republic Aviation Corporation became part of McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company after being acquired by that company through a merger transaction conducted between McDonnell Douglas (MDAC) and American Airlines (AAL). At this time McDonnell Douglas also became part of Lockheed Martin which continued as operator/owner of Republic Aviation Corporation's assets until 1995 when it sold them back to McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co.,Inc.,TBD

The gift history of Republic Aviation Corporation spanned many years and included donations from many people within the community. In 1984, Republic merged with Boeing Company and thus began what is now known as Boeing Company International. Ever since then, various donations have been given to the university by individuals or businesses within Irvine. These donations have helped create some of the most valuable assets on campus such as an engineering building and a library.

In 2002, the RAF donated a new jet fighter airplane to NASA in memory of astronaut Neil Armstrong. The following year, they gifted a hangar at Lackland AFB in Texas in honor of General James Mattis, who was then Commander-in-Chief of US Central Command. In 2018, they gave a $100 million dollar donation to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. In 2019, the USAF gave a Boeing 707 Dreamliner airplane as a gift to Saudi Arabia in memory of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. This was one of several donations made by the USAF during 2019 in remembrance of fallen service members and veterans. Additionally, they have also given money to various charities throughout 2019 including hurricane relief efforts and mental health services for military members and their families.

Irvine is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 298,826 as of the 2010 census. Irvine is located on the eastern edge of the San Bernardino Mountains and consists of a densely populated residential area near the foothills of Mount San Antonio and other high mountains. It lies within both Riverside County and Los Angeles County. The city has been called "the heartland of Southern California" since it was founded in 1879 by men from Northern California who were lured to what was then new territory by its rich Mining and Manufacturing industries. Over time, Irvine's economy has shifted from manufacturing to services and today employs over 60% of its workforce in those fields. The first people to settle in this area were Native Americans who hunted and gathered food for their families during warm weather months. By 1800 there were several small adobe villages scattered around what is now Irvine Rancho Viejo (now George Evans Park). In 1879 land grantee John Sutter discovered gold near present-day Fullerton while exploring for mines in northern San Bernardino County. Sutter named his discovery site after him, Irvine Rancho Viejo (later Orange County). A year later he organized a group of men to explore the area for minerals, including Captain Heinrich Hertzog who led an expedition into what are now known as Kern Canyonlands National Monument and Yucca Valley National Monument northwest of Irvine on November 25., 1879 (). In 1880 Wm Hite built anadobe ranch house at what is now Coto de la Hacienda Road #902 within today's boundaries of Irvine Rancho Viejo village sites dating back to pre-historic times when these areas were part of Tubac Creek valley which drained into Sepulveda River northeastward towards maybe Pasadena or Devonshire Wells eastward towards modern day Yorba Linda CA southward through present day Orange CA until it emptied into about current Coto de la Hacienda Road just east pastpresent day Huntington Beach on January 14th 1881 (). Captain John Day started leasing land north from Laguna Honda between Anaheim Hills Boulevard/Pinecrest Avenue/Citrus Heights Avenue) on December 5th 1886 from José Ortiz with 999 acres () . Mexican land grants added parcels between here northwards such that by 1899 there were 6 parcels total with initial boundaries: 1 parcel granted unto James Buchanan Goodacre March 4th 1888; 2 tracts granted unto Alfred Pomeroy March 11th 1889; 3 grants (actually 8 lots) given Thomas Edison February 15th 1890; 4 allotments offered Augustus Herriman October 10th 1890 – all located hereinabove described bounds no doubt because adjacent townships had already been leased or patented thereto prior thereto! Also Augustus Herriman received title “Allotment No 7” Feb 13rd 1897 also situated hereabouts according to patent issued thence! Finally Luis Ferrer De La Torre purchased title “Allotment No 9” Apr 12th 1901 from Augustus Herriman for $2,000 cashier’s check! These transactions took place largely outside any town limits thereby enabling early pioneers like Day & Ferrer more access to valuable real estate thus creating one significant reason why Irvine continues as one continuously growing community today! On July 17TH 1893 James Buchanan Goodacre sold 1/4 interest in lot number 3881 comprising approximately 154 acres at current Garden Grove Blvd location just southwest cornerof present day Donnybrook Ave!! This sale set off a bidding war among various claimants resulting ultimately in inventor JOSEPH LINCOLN acquiring title through arbitration on October 15TH 1893!! After years OF litigation citizens voted by referendum held on November 2nd 1896to ratify incorporation providing name change option no less than two weeks hence!!! After much debate they adopted the name “Irvinston” effective date January 3rd 1897!!!!! Incorporation proceedings began immediately!!!!! With growth came necessity for better transportation so First Street became Post Office Rd May 16TH 1898 thru Oct 31st 1902 inclusive!!!! And then finally Geary Boulevard Nov 1ST 1907 !! All Streets Including First Street Became Public Roads Hereunder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
