The Air Force Deployed Gift History program has been a major part of the military culture in Kerman, California for many years. The program was started by retired Air Force colonel and air force historian Colonel Don Chalfant in 1978. The goal of the program is to bring back memories of service members who have served or are serving in our military and their families who have also contributed to our community through their service. The history of the Air Force Deployed Gift History program can be traced back to 1978 when Col. Don Chalfant began organizing a special group called the “Gift Warriors” to help return memories and Gifts from active duty service members and their families who had relocated to Kerman, CA. This group was made up of local residents, businesses, schools, churches and others who wanted to help make a difference in our community by bringing back fond memories from those who had served or were serving in our military. As time passed we grew more organized and began accepting donations from individuals, businesses and other organizations who desired to contribute something positive into our community through their donation of memory or gift items. Today we continue this tradition through the Air Force Deployed Gifting History Program which allows Active Duty Service Members, Veterans Affairs Family members ( spouse/children ), National Guard & reserve components ( parent/child ) as well as civilian spouses/concerned friends or family members of deployed USAF personnel (parents if it is an Active Duty Service Member)to send items such as mementos , photos, buttons , books , T-shirts etc., both digital and physical artifacts that will be stored securely onsite at AFB Materiel Command located adjacent to Wright-Patterson AFB until donated or sold off by AFDC staff member(s). Items may also be shipped directly to any address within the United States without having first been screened for postage costs! To date over 1 million gifts have been sent through this initiative with many different types of artifacts being donated includingphotos,mementos & buttons
