Cup of Joe's Coffee is one of the oldest coffee businesses in town and has been operating since 1903. It is now owned and operated by the Cummings family. In October 1984, Cup of Joe's was recognized as a National Historic Landmark for its significance in the history of American coffee culture. The store continues to be a popular tourist destination for visitors from all over the country. In 1990, Anthony Cummings passed away at the age of 91 after spending more than fifty years running Cup of Joe's Coffee shop. His wife Barbara continued operations until her death in 2001. Today, their son Barry manages Cup of Joe's Coffee shop while also working part-time at his father's store on Main Street in Kerman during peak hours.

Kerman is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,598 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Joaquin Valley. The town was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1847. Kerman has a climate that is warmer than most of Northern California and has more rainfall than other areas in the valley. In 1916, Kerman became headquarters of Southern Pacific Railroad's Atwater Unit. In 1926, it became an incorporated municipality with a full government structure; all local government functions were vested in the city council until 1987 when they were transferred to the mayor and City Manager position within the city limits. Today Kerman consists of a downtown core which includes the historical courthouse and jail, as well as several small shops and restaurants on Market Street between First Avenue and G Streets NW; two new high schools (Northside High School and Eastside High School) completed in 2009; three stores -Hardware Store/Grocery store (founded 1888), Cafe de la Paix (opened 1912), Java Junction (opened 1971) -in addition to several family-owned businesses such as Mike's Pizza Shop, Dutch Bros., Dairy Queen and KFC; four public parks: Pershing Park located off I-5 behind Northside High School; Dogpatch Park located across from Pershing Park on West Side Drive NW; Jubilee Fields located east of town on Shamrock Road NE
