In 1865, George Kerman and his brother-in-law, Hiram Smith, founded the first coffee cooperative in the area. In 1892, they built the first roastery in California. The company continued to grow and produce quality coffee until it merged with another business in 1951.
Kerman is a small town in the Central Valley of California, about 125 miles (200 km) east of Fresno. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. Kerman is adjacent to Bakersfield and Isleton. The first European to visit what is now Kerman was Captain Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on November 9, 1769, while exploring San Francisco Bay. When he landed on shoreline near what is now Kerman in 1802 his party consisted of six men: José de Arguelles, Manuel Nieto y Costilla, Pedro Fortunato Carrillo y la Peña, Antonio López de Balboa and Felipe Fernández de Lugo y las Casas. On December 12th of that year they founded the village of Nueva Vizcaya (later renamed Kerman). In 1810 there were only four families living in the village; by 1820 there were over 50 settlers living here with a total population of 120 people including 20 Indians. In 1847 it became part of Bernardino Cisneros County when it was created from parts of Kern and Humboldt Counties. It remained part of Cisneros until 1907 when it became part of Sacramento County. On July 10th 1865 two factions fought each other in a cattle drive westward through what is now Kerman during the American Civil War. The main battle took place at Happy Valley which resulted in one man dead and many horses being killed or injured: John Sutter had invaded Nevada along this route seeking mineral rights for his new statehood movement called Northern California Confederation which he hoped would include most or all Californias east of the Mexican Border including present day Kern County as well as southern Coahuila Territory claimed by Mexico since 1846 but not yet colonized by Americans due to Indian resistance known as The Great rebellion

Kerman is a small town located in the Simi Valley area of Ventura County, California. Kerman was founded in 1853 by Luther Erdman and other German immigrants who arrived on the ship "Erdmann" from Hamburg, Germany. The community was named for Kerman, in what is now West Virginia, where Erdman had been working as a farmer. The first store in Kerman opened its doors in 1854. A post office was established in 1865, and the population rapidly grew; by 1880, there were over 100 residents. By 1907, Kerman had become one of southern California's most populous communities with a population of over 1,500 people. During World War II, much of southern California was razed to the ground by bombing raids from the United States mainland; however, Kerman escaped unscathed due to its location within military-controlled territory. In 1957, Kerman became an incorporated city with its own government and police force; it has since undergone several changes including becoming an urban center again and losing some of its original characteristics (e.g., a small rural core). Today's economy is largely based on agriculture; however, industry has also grown increasingly important in recent decades as more jobs have been created near Los Angeles Airport and other major metropolitan areas. Some notable landmarks include the Hollywood Bowl which sits on property that once belonged to Hollywood Studios; Mount Baldy State Park which features hiking trails leading down to crystal clear waters off Point Dume; and downtown Kerman's many businesses including both retail stores and restaurants which offer delicious local cuisine typical for this part of Southern California
It was in Kerman, California that the first people arrived to the area. The First Europeans to arrive were Mexican settlers who came in 1821. They named the area Rancho San Francisco de la Peña and built a small fort on it. In 1825, an Americanman by the name of John Goodwin bought part of the rancho from the Mexicans and started to develop it into a town. He called it Goodwin's Fort and developed a small business there. In 1828, he sold his land to another American man named George Hearst, who renamed it Hearst's Rancho Californio. From here, people began moving into what is now Kerman County because of its fertile soil and good climate.
