The United StatesArmy Garrison in King City, California was established on December 15th, 1866. The first soldiers from the army arrived in this small town to garrison an Army post. This small outpost served as a training ground for new troops and also acted as a recruitment center for the army. Over time, the garrison grew and changed its name to the United States Army at Fort Yuma on February 14th, 1898 after Yuma became part of Arizona Territory. On July 1st, 1912, the fort was renamed Camp Verde after General Victoriano Huerta's successful campaign against Mexico in that year. The military installation remained active until it was closed by order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt on May 9th, 1944 due to budget cuts within the military establishment during World War II. Today, portions of Camp Verde are still used by Detachment 3rd Battalion (9th Infantry) Regiment Hawaii National Guard as their primary training area for infantry recruits and Drill Instructors. In addition to its use as training grounds for infantry recruits and Drill Instructors; Camp Verde is also home to two large industrial parks which house various defense contractor companies such as Northrop Grumman Corporation and Raytheon Company among others. -In 1886 when Captain John Sutter founded what is now known as King City Municipal Utility District he donated land east of present day First Street near US 101 for development into what would become Fort Yuma State Park today -On June 5th 1902 Captain Samuel Morse donated land west side of US 101 between present day First Street & Apache Boulevard just north of Warner Springs Elementary School -December 15th 1866 when Ulysses S Grant ordered UJA unit #8 under command Colonel George Armstrong Custer be stationed at Fort Yuma following his successful march through Red River Valley

King City is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area. The first permanent settlement in King City was founded on October 25, 1853 by Captain John Sutter and his party of Forty-Eight pioneers who set out from Stockton on the Oregon Trail. They named their new settlement "Eagle Creek" after nearby Eagle Peak (8,815 feet (2,527 m)). In 1859, George Kapp established a post office in King City which became an important stop on the Central California Railroad. In 1865, King City incorporated as a city under the name of "Bakersfield". In 1915 the town's water system was improved and renamed the Kern River Water System; it continues to serve this purpose today. In 1978–79 local voters approved Measure E which amended the city charter to allow for referendum voting on all issues except dissolution of city government and election of mayors and directors other than those currently authorized by ordinance or resolution passed by Councilmember at large without prior public hearing. The measure also provided that any vote against dissolution must be reported back to Councilmember at Large no later than ten days after its passage for reconsideration and possible action even if no action is taken within that time frame On November 8th 2014 KCSI Channel 10 announced they would be moving from Bakersfield to Monterrey Mexico due to financial irregularities with their contract with KPBSChannel 7
