In the early 1900s, King City was a small town in the Mojave Desert. It was home to a few hundred people and their families, and coffee was the town's primary export. The first coffeehouses were established in 1892 in what is now Midtown King City. In 1912, entrepreneur J.M. Simons opened his first retail store in what is now downtown King City. King City became known as the "Coffee Capital of the World" because of its high-quality coffee and its unique atmosphere. The city's cafés served up unique blends of roasted beans from around the world, as well as delicious breakfast sandwiches and salads. Cafés such as Mr.'s Java (now closed), Dutch Bros., Third Street Cafe, and Joe's Coffee House remain popular today with their loyal clientele.

In 1905, John Fenton purchased the business from Gaspare Caffarelli. Fenton continued to operate it as a coffee shop until his death in 1951. In 1969, Jeffrey Lichtman opened the first Starbucks store in King City. It was the first Starbucks store west of the Mississippi River. The store operated for thirteen years before being closed down in 1997. In 2009, Starbucks reopened its doors at 7th and Battery Streets with a new location for their Mexican-American population called La Casa de Espresso which served iced coffee and turkey bacon wrapped dates withnelle cream cheese (www.latimesblogs.com).
King City is a small city located in the western Mojave Desert of California. At an elevation of 4,500 feet (1,100 meters), it is the highest continuously inhabited city on the West Coast of North America. The population was 108,853 as of 2010. The name "King City" was given to the town by Captain John C. Frémont in 1848 while exploring what is now Nevada and Arizona. He named it for King George IV of Great Britain because he thought that the town would be a good place to store goods during his journey through those regions. At first, there were only about 20 people living in King City when it was founded in 1849. However, over time, the town grew rapidly due to its location and trade opportunities with other nearby towns such as Donner Pass and Bishop Rock. By 1860, King City had become one of the most important settlements on the Western edge of Mexico City and had started to attract attention from American residents looking for potential trading posts on their trip through Mexico and Central America. During Mexican rule over this part of California, King City enjoyed some degree of autonomy due to its strategic location at a crossroads between two major caravan routes connecting Mexico with points eastwards across Central America: The California Trail and La Paz Road. This status changed after United States Independence when The Mexican Republic ceased to exist following US victory in la Guerra de los Indios (the Mexican-American War). As American possessions increased along what is now Southern California's borderland – including portions now known as Nevada and Arizona – Mexicans living within US borders began to lose their rights to property ownership or political power within their own country; thus, by 1882 King City had passed fromMexican hands into that of Californians under treaty terms known as Treaty OF Peace Between Us & MexiCal 2/20/1882 It wasn't until after World War II that KingCity again lost its independence from Californian control thanks largely to various factors including plenty Of water storage capacity available on nearby Mono Lake which eventually allowed development throughout much central valley area Notch Incline And Beeline Blvd., Kings Canyon National Park Slough And parts Of Fresno County

King City, California was founded on July 12, 1849 by the brother of then-Majestic Sacramento County Sheriff John C. Fremont. The town was named for King George IV of England who had been exiled to America in 1820. The original settlers were gold prospectors and their families. In 1865, the town became a city and it has since grown to be one of the most populous cities in California. The city is located at an elevation of 2,554 feet (715 meters). It is bordered by Fresno County to the south, Kern County to the east, and San Bernardino County to the north. King City has a total population of over 283,000 people as of 2015. The economy of King City is based largely on agriculture and manufacturing with a focus on ranchers and farmers markets. The first post office in King City opened on October 17, 1850. The current Post Office building was built in 1907 and is considered one of California's most beautiful buildings. A number of important historical events have occurred in King City including: -In 1863, when General Don Carlos Manuel de Mendoza y Diez arrived in King City from Mexico with orders to suppress any resistance against Mexican rule throughout California -In 1871 when American forces invaded California -On February 11th 1865 when President Abraham Lincoln signed into law "An act forthe better regulationof immigration into this state" which gave rise to what is now known as Immigration Day -In 1984 after years of planning Mayor Walter Ewing designated Kings Canyon National Park within the city limits

In 1912, Mayor Oscar Wolk went on tour around America and returned to King City for two days before presenting his report to city council available for public inspection.
