During World War I, the city contributed weapons, ammunition, vehicles and other supplies to the war effort. In 1919, the city donated $10,000 towards erection of a library which would serve as both a community center and branch library for San Bernardino County. A number of businesses have been located within the walls of City Hall since 1861 including Wm. Caskets & Sons Shoes which closed its doors in 1951; Jordon Bros., a grocery store that opened in 1913; Masonic Lodge #1 (later known as First Baptist Church) which met at 6th and Castro Streets from 1915-1963; Golden Nugget Saloon on 5th Street from 1922-1996; Denny's restaurant on 4th Street from 1949-1978; Mrs. Ritchie's Candy Shop on 3rd Street from 1951-1982 and finally Dr Pepper Bottles (now PepsiCo) on State Route 66 from 1962-1983

King City is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 12,431 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kern County. The first settlement in Kern County was at what is now King City on November 16, 1847 by George A. Smith and his party of settlers under the leadership of Captain John Sutter. The name was given to an area near the present-day downtown area after General Castillo's forces burned down Los Molinos Adobe House on October 17, 1850 during their attempt to rout the Mexican army from San Joaquin Valley. The town site was located on what are now lower Deming and Santa Fe Streets between Mission Bayou and First Street west of Mills Building (now part of Kaiser Permanente Medical Center). A post office called "King City" opened in 1851, and remained in operation until it closed on July 14, 1861 due to low mail volume. On December 15, 1860, parts of Monterey County were merged with Kern County; however King City continued to be part of Kern County until it became an independent incorporated municipality on February 21st 1912. In 1911 a new small oil refinery was built west of town by Standard Oil Company which led to a large growth in businesses within King City during that time as well as development outside the city limits including Encinitas Marina & Resort which has since become one of Southern California's most popular tourist destinations primarily because of its views over Long Beach harbor while enjoying excellent food options as well.. From 1925-1929 Kingsville also served as headquarters for Western Electric Corporation where many key employees developed their careers within this company such as President Walter Winchell who made him one half owner/founder - along with his brother Edward M -of ABC television network out of Los Angeles.. In 1929 Kingsville changed its name back to "King City" when Western Electric Corporation relocated its corporate HQ there from Scranton PA.. From 1933-1935 sales manager for Chrysler Motors Corporporated Harry Cummings ran production operations at what is now known as Chrysler 125 Speedway Boulevard east side next door to Kingsville High School... After World War II endedKingsville experienced rapid growth thanks largely to several migrant workers brought over by Ford Motor Company who installed large numbers Of V8 engines into American automobiles including those used in Dearborn MI plant during Wernher von Braun’s space race years... In 1965 Henry Madden purchased all assets and liabilities associated with Western Electric Corporation making him sole owner/operator giving rise to current appellation “Madden Automobiles Incorporated”... Today much remains unchanged from days past with only subtle changes taking place like rebranding some services such as automotive repairs or car wash etc., but overall life goes on unaffected despite major community events happening elsewhere
