The Kingsburg Air Force Base is home to the California Air National Guard's 182d Fighter Wing. The wing was activated on 20 September 1944 at San Francisco Municipal Airport as the 183d Fighter Group. It was redesignated as the 182d Fighter Wing on 1 January 1948 and assigned to Sacramento County, California where it operated from Midway Airport. On 15 December 1951, the wing was redesignated as the 182d Tactical Airlift Wing and moved to nearby Northridge Army Base. On 1 July 1955, the wing became an operational unit of Ninth Air Force when it transferred from Sacramento County to that command. Inactivated on 30 September 1957 due to budget cuts within Ninth Air Force. On 1 October 1959, elements of the 182d Tactical Airlift Wing were transferred to Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona for operations with Republic F-89D Thunderjets following their conversion from piston fighter aircraft into jet aircraft. The 184th Fighter Squadron was also transferred to Davis-Monthan AFB in October 1959 and activated there becoming a jet fighter squadron under Tenth Air Force control effective 1 November 1959 while also sharingaughlin Field with headquarters element of 184th Tactical Airlift Wing which had been activated at Davis-Monthan AFB since its activationdate 2 October 1945 as part of general aviation program by United StatesAAF in response wartime shortage of piston engined medium bomber forces; this organization served untilactivated 7 May 1946 when all medium bombers were withdrawn from service effective 16 May 1946 due lack of airframe availability for new types being developed during war years) Inactivated on 30 September 1957 due to budget cuts within Ninth Air Force; however its components continued flying Republic F-89Ds until 1958 (184th FG converted into Aermacchi P 116A/B Jet Canopy Aircraft between 9 November 1958 - 18 February 1959). Inactivation: 180th FS (Fighter), 180th TAC (Tactical), 181st FS (Flying Training Unit), 181st TU (Training Units), 187th FS (Heavy Bomber Squadrons)

The Kingsburg Air Force Base gift history begins in the early 1940s with the donation of a Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber to the base. The aircraft was used for bombardment during World War II and its final mission was as part of the Operation Crossroads atomic bombing campaign against Japan. Since then, the Kingsburg AFB gift history has included many other military and civilian gifts from various individuals and organizations. Some of these include: a Boeing 777 jetliner donated by Virgin Atlantic Airways; a large hangar at the base that is now home to numerous helicopters and planes; an engine testing lab; and a ballistic missile launchpad. In recent years, local businesses have also contributed to the AFB gift history with donations such as clothing stores, restaurants, and nightlife venues.
Kingsburg is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,887 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Kern River. Kingsburg was founded in 1876 by J.P. Morgan and his brother Jameson as a stagecoach stop on the route between Bakersfield and Fresno. In 1898, the town was renamed for General George Custer after he was killed in action at Little Big Horn in Montana

Kingsburg is located in Kern County, California. The town was founded by the Central Pacific Railroad in 1887 and named for George Augustus Kingsbury, an early settler. In the 1920s, Kingsburg became one of the most important Native American reservations in California. It remains a federally recognized tribe today. The first Europeans to visit Kingsburg were members of the Gabrielino Band of Mission Indians who came from San Diego in 1846. They built a mud fort at what is now known as Chavez Ravine on October 17, 1846. TheGabrielinos had already been living near present-day Kern Lake for several hundred years and were familiar with the area. In 1887, the Central Pacific Railroad arrived in Kingsburg and began work on its main line from Bakersfield to Stockton. The railroad needed a town site for its workers and chose Kingsbury because it was midway between Bakersfield and Stockton on high ground that offered good views of both cities. Work on the town began in earnest soon after arrival, and it was officially begun on March 12, 1888. Kingsbury quickly became one of Southern California's leading towns due to its location, access to railroads, and population size (around 2,000 people at its peak). Its growth continued during World War I when many war-time jobs across Southern California were available; Kansan farmers turned out goods for soldiers stationed throughout Northern California while local blacksmiths worked on military equipment production outside Kingsburg proper. After World War II ended and job opportunities diminished across much of southern California, Kingsburg's population dwindled until only a few hundred people remain today including some Native Americans who still reside thereabouts

In 1916, Kingsburg became an incorporated city. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its strategic location as a transportation and supply center for the Allied forces fighting in Europe.During the war, Kingsburg became known for its production of T-34 tanks and other heavy weaponry. After the war, the city experienced a significant decline in population because of increased competition from nearby Valley City and Bakersfield. However,Kingsburg has recovered since the 1990s and is now a thriving community with many businesses and cultural attractions.
