Kingsburg is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,496 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area. Kingsburg was founded by settlers from what is now Sacramento in 1847. The name derived from an Indian word meaning "place of cotton." In 1853, the first post office in Kingsburg opened under the name of Northaven after Maj. Gen. George Armstrong Custer's column arrived there to cross the cavalry trail that led into southern California. The community gradually grew and by 1890 it had a store, bank and schoolhouse. A sawmill and machine shop were also built soon after. In 1906, Kingsburg became one of twenty townships within Kern County when it was created as a result of efforts by Governor Hiram Johnson to reduce congestion on Interstate 5 east of Bakersfield. In 1951 Kingsburg approved an ordinance establishing its own fire department which helped spur development around thetown center including several homesite subdivisions that still stand today such as Southridge Rancho and Northridge Rancho (now known as Heritage Estates). As Kingsburg slowly gained popularity for its variety of shops and services available throughout its wide commercial district, businesses began sprouting up all over town - many still operate today including churches (St Joseph's Catholic Church being one example), beauty salons (Bella Vita Salon & Spa), banks (First National Bank) and more recent arrivals like KFC (King's China Buffet) or Pizza Hut (Pizza Place). With steady growth came increased traffic on local streets which caused some problems such as crumbling sidewalks or inadequate drainage systems; however, these have been largely overcome with ongoing upgrades to the town's infrastructure including new roads, bridges and culverts

Kingsburg was founded by prospectors in 1847 and named for Captain John Kingsbury of the Santa Fe Railroad company. It became an incorporated community in 1872. In 1916, Kingsburg became the seat of Kern County after it was moved from Chico to Kingsburg from Needles. The Post Office at Kingsburg opened on November 15, 1916, and served until it closed on July 14, 1954. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2000,[2] there were 2,362 people residing in the town: 1,085 (51%) male and 953 (49%) female. The racial makeup of the town was 97% White and 3% Native American; Hispanics made up 2% of the population or 0.3%. There were no Asians living in Kingsburg then or now according to US Census data since Asian Americans are not counted as residents by that count
Kingsburg was founded in 1849 by Juan Bautista Alvarado and his wife María. The town grew rapidly, and by 1860 it had a population of over 500 people. In 1871, the California Gold Rush started and quickly killed the town's population, but Kingsburg continued to grow until it reached its peak in 1912 with 1,500 residents. However, during World War I the town declined sharply due to lack of housing and other wartime necessities. In 1922, Kingsburg merged with neighboring Humboldt County to form a new county. In 1957, Kingsburg became an incorporated city. It experienced rapid growth after becoming an incorporated city, reaching its maximum population of 568 people in 1991. Slum clearance efforts in the early 21st century causedKingsburg's population to fall below 350 people by 2013; however, it has since rebounded slightly and is now at 406 people as of 2018.
