Kingsburg is a small town in southeastern California, located on the Peninsular Coast. It was founded in 1872 by brothers Alfred and George Kingsbury, and became an important seaport for shipping logs from the area. The town grew rapidly during the early 1900s, thanks to its position at the mouth of the Kings River, which made it a popular tourist destination. In 1907, Kingsburg was named an incorporated town, and in 1959 it became part of Imperial County. Today, Kingsburg remains a sleepy rural community with few commercial properties except for one grocery store. Kingsburg was founded in 1872 by mining brothers C.H. Kingsbury and W.T. Kingsbury as a small community on the banks of the Tuolumne River east of Bakersfield. The town name was chosen to commemorate Captain John Fenton Kingsbury (1821-1893), an American explorer who had explored much of what is now Kern County and central California during the mid-19th century and led several expeditions into Nevada and Oregon. Fenton's older brother Charles H. Kingsbury (1795-1865) founded Fresno in 1851, south of Bakersfield on Madera Creek; his son Wm., also called Charlie, moved their business operations toKingsburg in 1872 after purchasing land from Samuel Sutter for $1 per acre (the original township boundaries were not established until 1888). The first post office opened in 1872, and remained open until it closed in 1909; it was located at what is now 95th Street and Union Avenue within today's town limits; mail was delivered by stagecoach across Union Avenue from the old adobe buildings used as post office facilities back then to residents on Indian Wells Road just north of present day Interstate 5 freeway entrances/exits 4a/4b/5 which are still extant among other early civic landmarks including sheriff's department headquarters which burned down on September 20, 1951 while being used as barracks for US Air Force fighter pilots training at nearby Edwards Air Force Base during World War II when there was no airforce presence within Kern County anymore In 1916 local water wheel powered sawmill became operational; this mill originally operated 3 grain saws but later increased its capacity to 15(?) grain saws before closure in 1930 due to lack of available customers or market potential following prohibition repeal that year In 1938 new high school building with gymnasium became operational replacing earlier varsity tennis courts built by previous school board trustees prior thereto along with 2 basketball Courts added subsequent yrs
