La Canada Flintridge, California is a census-designated place located in Inyo County, California. As of the 2010 census, its population was 2,972. La Canada Flintridge is located on the eastern edge of the San Bernardino Mountains and it is adjacent to Big Bear Lake. The community was founded by J.P. Hennessey in 1922 as Holmwood Springs Station on his Rancho Encinal property east of Big Bear Lake. The name change came about because of an election campaign promise by then-Governor Hiram Johnson to end discrimination against Mexican Americans living in Central Valley towns and villages east of Los Angeles. In 1924, Hennessey donated land for what would become La Canada Flintridge Village and he also provided funds for its building and operation. The first homes were built here in 1924-25 using small plots of land that had been acquired from other ranchers in the area. Most settlers arrived during or after World War II when construction crews working on nearby military bases started arriving with new tools, machines and equipment that changed how life here began again for many people who had left behind difficult lives back home. Today's village has grown considerably over the years due to donations from individuals, businesses and foundations alike - most notably from philanthropist Helen Hunt Jackson who pledged $350 million toward development within five years if she became First Lady of America after her husband’s inauguration in 1961. On July 1, 2009 La Canada Flintridge celebrated its centennial with a celebration including wine tastings from local wineries as well as performances by local musicians at the Old Mill Community Center ground zero for much earlier American settlements dating back to 1847 near today’s Mojave Desert National Preserve just west of Interstate 15 between Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs National Open Space Preserve

By 1912, La Canada had grown to include more than 100 homes, a school, a water system, and a post office. In 1924, the town changed its name tosequoyah after Sequoyah County in Oklahoma. In 1942, La Canada became part of the United States during World War II when it was placed under military jurisdiction as part of General Douglas MacArthur's Western Command. The Flintridge community continued to grow during the war period and by 1948 it had reached its present size. After the war, many residents moved away from Flintridge for various reasons including economic change in Kern County or for racial discrimination in southern California. However, some continue to live within the community today. LaCanada Flintridge experienced significant growth during both its pre-war years and postwar years due to several factors including its location close to agricultural production areas; its strong ties with local ranchers; and its access to water supplies provided by two creeks that flowed through nearby hills. These resources helped make LaCanada one of the most heavily populated communities in Kern County during these years. Although changes took place over time – such as annexation by other communities – la Canadians remained fiercely proud of their community identity and culture until recent times when they have largely become inactive participants in local life。 During THROUGH THE YEARS: A HISTORY OF KERN COUNTY (1927), published in 1927 by author Ethel Parsons Steininger, it was noted that "the old citizens [of] La Canada are still very much alive...and keep alive their traditions." The paper also reported that "a number" of residents still attend church services every Sunday morning despite moves away from town at different times throughout history.;
The community of La Canada Flintridge, California was established in 1871. The town was named after the Canadian town of La Canada and its founders were Englishmen who had migrated to the United States in search of a better life. The community quickly developed into a small farming village with a population of approximately 160 people. The first school in La Canada Flintridge was built in 1875 and served as the primary educational center for the community. By 1907, the population had increased to over 400 people and the first church was erected that year. In 1917, La Canada Flintridge became an incorporated municipality and began to develop as a bedroom community for Los Angeles. The population reached its peak size by 1930 and gradually declined over the next few decades. In 1957, La Canad Flintridge merged with neighboring communities of Canoga Park and Glendale to form what is now known as Monrovia Township. However, despite this merger, La Canad Flintridge continued to decline in popularity until it finally dissolved in 1990 due to lack of support from local officials. Today, most of the former town remains vacant and is not used for any purpose other than tourism purposes.
