La Canada Flintridge is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 3,004 at the 2000 census. La Canada Flintridge is located east of Redlands and northwest of Moreno Valley. The first permanent settler in what is now La Canada Flintridge was George Whetstone, who arrived in 1846. Whetstone named his property "Flintridge" after his native land in Scotland. He also built a cabin there. By 1860, the community had grown to include 20 homes and 10 businesses. In 1871, the Ute Indian tribe forced their way into La Canada Flintridge and destroyed most of the pioneer evidence associated with early settlement there. However, some settlers rebuilt their homes as Morongo post offices from 1872-1875; these buildings still stand today on Main Street. In 1907, LaCanada's first school opened; it was an adobe building on Second Street called "Mrs. Griggs' School." The school closed in 1951 due to budget cuts by then-Governor Goodwin Coleman amid nationwide pressure to provide more public education opportunities for all children across America than were being offered through traditional private schools at that time. In 1944, during World War II, members of the armed forces stationed at nearby Sanger Army Airfield used Flintridge as a base camp while they engaged in training exercises over Southern California; the site remains unoccupied today andapaerted off State Route 94A just north of town limits ( adjacent to Sanger). 1st Infantry Division headquarters bivouacked here from September 1944 until December 1945 when they moved southward towards Orange County 2nd Infantry Division Headquarters bivouacked here from January 1946 until May 1947 when they moved southward towards Riverside County Airstrip Base Camp used by Ninth Air Force during Operation Overlord this area remained unoccupied until 1957 when it was compulsorily closed due to environmental concerns about Lead Contamination at Sanger Airport which however did not stop operations currently operated by volunteers under various names including Republic Of Los Angeles AF leased from Ptarmigan Airways Incorporated 1/15/2015 - present day

In 1923, La Canada Flintridge became an incorporated city when it ratified an act of the California Legislature granting municipal status to townships within its boundaries. The city went through several name changes over the years, including Ontario (1937-1946), Victoria (1948-1959), and finally Flintridge (1963-present).
