The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the La Habra community in 2006. The air force had donated an airplane and hangar to the La Habra Airport for use as a training facility. At the time, it was the only airport in California that could offer USAF fighter pilots training. The gift was accepted with open arms by the community, and has become an integral part of La Habra's history. The first aircraft donation from the USAF was a Boeing 727-200 called "Hope". Hope was delivered to La Habra on November 6, 2006 and quickly became popular with local residents for its unique design and easy flyingability. La Habra is a city in the southern portion of Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 43,711 as of 2010. La Habra is the second most populous city in Los Angeles County after Carson City and it is part of the LA metropolitan area. It is bordered by Pasadena to the east, Orange county to the south and north, and San Bernardino County to the west. The first Europeans to visit what is now La Habra were two Franciscan missionaries named Father Junipero Serra and Father Francisco Gomez on December 5, 1817 while exploring mission lands near present-day Sylmar. They named their small settlement "San Gabriel" after Pope Gregory XVI's nephew who had been born in 1765 in Rome into a wealthy Spanish family. A post office called La Habrá was established at this location on May 6, 1847 by Acting Governor Amos Kendall with help from José Joaquin Balboa y Costilla. The name was changed to La Habrá on November 3rd due to objections from other towns within Los Angeles County that had similar names such as Palmdale and South Pasadena which were already established cities. The first postmaster was Pacheco who served from 1849-1852 In 1867 a railroad line called "The Pacific Telegraph Company" extended through this area making it one of the earliest areas in Southern California served by railways including Anaheim (1868), Santa Ana (1871), Fullerton (1872), Gardena (1873), Torrance (1875) and Hollywood (1902). In 1886 an express station called "Eagle Rock" opened here when tracks were extended northeast from downtown Los Angeles via Eagle Rock Boulevard running parallel today's Interstate 210 eastbound until they reached Empire Avenue near Willowbrook Drive where they turned southeast under I-210 before reaching US 101W about 10 miles northwest of downtownLos Angeles

The USAF Gift History Collection began as a series of flyers that were sent to RAF stations in England during World War II. These flyers distributed fliers inviting servicemen and women to receive gift baskets from local grocery stores. After the war, the USAF developed a program called “Gift Baskets for Troops” which mailed gift baskets full of various items to units stationed overseas. Today, the USAF Gift History Collection encompasses over 4 million gift basket deliveries dating back to World War II. According to its website, “the collection represents an important part of American military culture and provides insights into how our forces have interacted with our friends and partners around the world”. Gifts from individuals, organizations, or governments have ranged from cheese puffs given as Christmas presents to Special Forces gear Given as thank-yous for successful missions.
