There is no one answer as to why this phenomena exists within the Marine Corps; however it may be due in part to a sense of ownership over these gifts given back over time. It is also possible that some Marines feel more connected to Veterans than others due in part to their experience fighting alongside them on multiple deployments throughout history and around the world. It seems like this tradition will continue even if future efforts at restarting Navalachy are unsuccessful; as long as marines continue TO give back they will maintain a long legacy OF servicefulness & dedication

In 1866, Captain George Waring and his party discovered a large salt lake at La Habra and named it after this spot. This mill became known as Fenton's Mill because its founder, James Fenton, also owned and operated a flour mill in nearby Tecate. In 1907, Samuel Morse donated land to build an elementary school in La Habra which was designated as Morse Elementary School (later renamed John Marshall Middle School). On December 5th of that year, President Theodore Roosevelt delivered a speech at the school which announced that America would sign World War I using funds received from Morse's donation. On February 14th of 1928, during prohibition Era America's first Alcoholics Anonymous meetings were held at La Habara High School auditorium with around 50 people attending due to then-President Herbert Hoover's efforts to reduce alcoholism within our society
