The National Guard of La Habra, California was established on December 5, 1903. The first National Guard unit in the city was Company C of the Second battalion, Ninth Regiment, California Volunteers. The regiment served at various locales before being mustered into federal service on September 12, 1916 as part of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I. Company C fought at Belleau Wood and Ypres. They returned home to La Habra in 1919 and were demobilized on May 9, 1921. On July 1, 1933 a new National Guard unit was organized when Companies B-L of the Second Battalion, Ninth Regiment activated at La Habra Municipal Airport. The unit served until it disbanded on October 2, 1945. On December 5th of that year a third company was organized when Company K activation occurred at Santa Fe High School with personnel from other units also coming from nearby cities like Moorpark and Downey Heights to join forces with their new counterparts here in La Habra. In 1957 a fourth company was Organized and this time it became known as Headquarters & Headquarters Detachment (HHD) which lasted until 1959 when it transitioned to an Aide Service detachment; later becoming Troop G during 1963-1964 troop rotation changes leading up to full statehood as the First Battalion/9th Infantry Regiment (National Guard) on November 3rd 1964 under Governor Earl Warren’s orders following passage of AB 1492 which designated all Californian military units by their state name rather than their original regiment name (e.g., “Company C” become “First Battalion/9th Infantry Regiment (National Guard)), effective February 15th 1965). A total of 62 companies have been organized since Ventura County became its own county seat back in 1911 while there have also been numerous detachments sent here or withdrawn due to lack of volunteers or military manpower; these days there are over 10 active battalions and 6 detachments stationed throughout Southern California!

La Habra is located on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County and is bordered by Pasadena to the east, Gardena to the south, ex-urb Anaheim to the west and Ontario to the north. Construction continued until 1915 due to World War I; during that time, much of downtown LA was destroyed in a fire that destroyed most of downtown LA and killed more than 100 people. The school reopened in 1919 with new facilities around what are now designed as Arenas Drive and Pico Boulevard. LPGA professional golfer Tiger Woods attended high school here before going on to play college golf at USC Trojans (1996-1999). Other notable athletes who have played or studied at USC include Olympic gold medalist sprinter Usain Bolt (2003), NBA MVP Stephen Curry (2007-2011), MLB pitcher Adam Eaton (2005) and NFL linebacker Ray Lewis (2001-2006).
