In the early 1800s, La Habra was a small town in Orange County, California. The first Naval Ship Museum was organized in 1892 and it housed decommissioned naval vessels from both the United States Navy and the Spanish Navy. In 1912, the La Habra City Council approved a resolution recognizing San Diego as being “the Naval Ship Center of America” and adopted a resolution designating La Habra as the “Naval Ship Capital of America.” On December 3rd, 1951, USS Constitution (26) Memorial Day Parade took place in honor of USS Constitution (26) which had served with distinction during World War II and Korean War. On November 1st, 1945, USS deck gunboat USS Knox (DD-975) collided with another ship whileunsafely entering port at Long Beach Harbor. As a result of this accident two sailors were killed and seven were injured including four officers. This event is also recognized annually by the Navy with an event called “Shipwreck Awareness Weekend” which takes place over three weekends in late May or early June at various ports across the country to commemorate this important milestone in naval history. In 1970-1972 Captain Halsey's "Chesapeake" supplied fuel to ANZAC battlecruisers during their deployment off southern Australia. Chesapeake would again supply fuel to battlecruisers when they sailed off Tasmania on their final Deployment before returning home on July 5th 1972 after completing 2 tours of duty totaling 185 days overall waterlogged/oceanographic survey work between Melbournevagas Point west Australia and Albany New Zealand

On May 26, 1926, the City Council voted to annex portions of Carson City east of I-5 and south of State Route 158 (now US 101). On November 3rd 1926 a vote was taken to annex what is now Watts neighborhood to La Habra because there were over 20 homes in that area which had not been annexed by either city yet.
