La Habra is a city in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 33,839 at the 2010 census. La Habra is part of the Downtown Los Angeles metropolitan area. The downtown core of La Habra is home to the City Hall and many other public buildings as well as several major businesses such as Chevron and Kaiser Permanente. There are also several small businesses located throughout the city center that can provide services to residents and tourists alike. The history of La Habra goes back to 1847 when prospectors discovered gold near what is now La Habra Heights. In 1872, a group of men led by John Sutter founded the town of La Habra on land that they had purchased from Mission San Gabriel Arcángel. It became an agricultural community with many haciendas (ranch homes). In 1907, La Habra was incorporated as a city under the name of Victorville because it was thought that cities had more infrastructure than rural areas. That same year, work began on building the first water works in Imperial County and in 1909, construction began on the first airport in Imperial County – now known as LAX – which served both local farmers and travelers travelling through Imperial County. In 1945, during World War II, LabCorp offered for sale 1/4 acre (0.2 hectare) of undeveloped land between Memorial Boulevard and Third Street east of I-15 for $10 per acre ($2 million today). On this parcel lay what would become Modena Mall which opened its doors on November 10th 1951 after two years of planning by Mayor Leland Doan and City Manager Leslie Swenson under then-Mayor Harry Weese’s administration.modena mall was one of three new shopping malls built or rebuilt in Southern California during that period; others were Citrus Hills Plaza in Desert Hot Springs and Farmers Market Place in Walnut Creek Today there are over 4500 employees working at Modena Mall including 900 store managers Over half a million customers visit Modena Mall each month bringing economic stimulus to our local economy

In 1848, the Mexican government decided to move its capital from Mexico City to La Habra, California. The decision was made because the area had been under Spanish control for over a century and the new location would be more accessible to American settlers. The city of La Habra was founded on December 8, 1848 by General Antonio López de Santa Anna and his army. At first, it was just a small town with only a few hundred residents. However, over time, La Habra grew into one of the most important towns in southern California. La Habra played an important role in both the Mexican-American War and the California Gold Rush. In 1849, President Zachary Taylor gave Congress authorization for $5 million in appropriations to be used for military purposes in the Mexican-American War. This money helped finance many of America’s campaigns against Mexico. In addition, La Habra became known as “the breadbasket of California” due to its extensive agricultural production. The California Gold Rush began in earnest around 1859 and lasted until1866. It was during this time that La Habra experienced some of its most notable development including the establishment of a local bank and first telephone system within town limits. also during this time many impressive buildings were constructed such as Pabst Brewing Company Building which still stands today (as well as other businesses). Aftermath: Despite being abandoned by Mexico after they lost their war with America, La Habra slowly regained some popularity among Americans beginning in 1902 when it became home to what is now known as Rancho San Bernardino State Park (later renamed Riverside County Park)
