In 1958, La Mesa became part of San Diego County and its voters approved Measure T which created a Joint Powers Authority to manage water resources for both counties. The authority operates the Point Reyes Reservoir and many other local services such as trash collection and streetlights. As one of twin towns established by Proposition 13 (2006), La Mesa benefits from increased development activity throughout downtown – including new restaurants, bars and housing developments – but also has access to more than 1 million square feet (1002 m²) of open space within walking distance for public use such as libraries, parks and trails. The climate here is mild year-round with average high temperatures between 50°F (10°C) and 85°F (30°C). In summer months there are often thunderstorms which can cause power outages; however they are less common than in other parts of San Diego County due to its location on the coast surrounded by mountains

La Mesa is a city in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. La Mesa is part of the Victorville Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent European settler in what is now La Mesa was José Romero who arrived in 1847. He and his family were granted land by Governor Manuel Nieto on December 16, 1848. The town site that became La Mesa was platted on July 14, 1850 by Captain George Atherton with the name of "Alta Californiana". Betyer & Company built a gristmill on the Santa Rita River which they named Alta Californiana flour mill in 1851. It later became the Betyer-Haley Mills Co., Ltd. On December 1st 1860 three men from Seattle, Washington walked into town to purchase goods for their new colony and founded the City of Victorville which incorporated as a town on January 3rd 1861 under corporate form with its own mayor and council. In 1862 Elisha Gray started blacksmithing at what is now corner of Main Street and Sunrise Avenue and soon began making shoes for local miners and soldiers for military campaigns in Mexico during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Gray continued to make shoes until 1865 when he relocated to San Francisco due to political pressure from US troops stationed at Camp Verde near Tucson Arizona Territory (now El Chico). After numerous business failures while residing in San Francisco he moved back to Victoria County in 1870 where he died five years later at age 73 years old having never retired from shoe manufacturing as it had been his passion all his life! Gray's legacy continues today as there are several streets named after him within La Mesa including Elisha Gray Way (formerly Elisha Gray Street), Gabrielle Gray Boulevard (formerlyGabrielle Hinson Boulevard) and finally John Brown Drive (John Brown Parkway). The family home located at 601 Wagon Wheel Road still stands today with extensive restoration work completed few years ago!
