The La Mirada Air Force Base is home to the California ANG's Airmen who are responsible for providing air support for military and law enforcement operations in the state of California. The base was first established in 1948 and has seen a number of changes over the years, including the creation of two wings in 1957 and 1996. Today, La Mirada AFB houses an all-volunteer force that numbers more than 6,500 men and women. With its sprawling acres of land and multiple airstrips, La Mirada AFB offers residents plenty of opportunities to get their hands on air support gear or even just learn about what it takes to fly an airplane. One aspect that is often overlooked by those living near La Mirada AFB is the fact that it has been home to both the United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE) until 2009 when they were transferred back to USAF headquarters at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. The USAF presence at La Mirada dates back to World War II when Congress passed a bill authorizing Air Service Command (ASA) jurisdiction over all coastal areas east of San Diego as part of a larger program called "Operation Crossroads." This included responsibility for operating aerial refueling stations located at Point Loma and Corona airports. Since then, many notable USAAF personnel have served with distinction at La Mirada AFB including Colonel James Ellington who commanded 1st Bombardment Wing during Desert Storm; Major General John Pershing who led USAF forces against Mexican insurgents during World War II; Lieutenant Colonel Don Armstrong who designed and flew America's first jet fighter squadron; Major General Jubal Early who served as Commander First Tactical Air Command during Vietnam; Captain Carl Spaatz who became CIA Director after 9/11; Lieutenant General Chuck Yeoman who was named commander NATO's Allied Land Forces Southern Europe prior to his retirement in 2013; Brigadier General Tom Troyer III who commanded 5th Fighter Wing prior to his promotion to brigadier general in February 2014; Colonel James McMahon from Republic Services Co which provides food services for IFR flights out of LAX airport
The United States Air Force is one of the most powerful military forces in the world. It has a large and diverse inventory of weapons and technology, as well as a large number of deployments worldwide. Just think about what amazing things our military could do if we could get behind their cause!!!

La Mirada is a city in Santa Barbara County, California, United States. The population was 21,463 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. La Mirada has been a small town since it was founded in 1885 by businessmen and farmers who moved to the area from nearby Morro Bay. Its downtown core around Park Avenue and Vine Street has been preserved as a small-town feel with live music venues, artisanal shops, and restaurants. The city's name means "the oasis" in Spanish and refers to its location on the banks of the Pacific Ocean where salt water meets fresh air. The original inhabitants were Native Americans who hunted deer, hogs, and other game near the ocean's edge. In 1885 some businessmen decided to move to this area because of its proximity to San Francisco but they found that there was no natural harbor for their ships so they built one on an island in what is now La Jolla Cove. In 1911 many prohibitionists moved into La Mirada after prohibition ended in California; these people formed what is known as “The Donners” gang which terrorized local businesses until 1924 when they were removed by government agents under orders from Governor Hiram Johnson (1856-1925). After World War I many American servicemen returned home and new families arrived from Northern California looking for agricultural land that had been closed off during Prohibition; these people planted crops but died of exposure or disease when it rained outside because there was no recommended water supply for agriculture at that time. After World War II many residents left La Mirada for different reasons including job opportunities in Los Angeles or Ventura County; however, some stayed behind to create what became known as “The Gold Coast” with its picturesque beaches, pink sand beacheside houses with white kitchens sinkers down into the black coral sand hillsides beyond them on Isla Vista Peninsula (later Seal Beach), perfect views of Mt Hollywood from their balconies while living within walking distance of all manner of stores along Alamitos Avenue between Saugus Boulevard and Point Loma Boulevard although not all stores were successful due to overpopulation combined with climate change making oranges unreliable during winter months causing property values drop precipitously instead increasing real estate prices) yet still close enough access to quality public transportation stops like Universal Studios Hollywood just minutes away while still remaining isolated enough so you could entertain yourself without fear someone would come knocking on your door unless you wanted them coming through your window!
