The town was founded by American expatriate Juan Bautista de la Cruz in 1887. La Mirada's economy is based on tourism, which accounts for more than 60% of the town's revenue. The original residents of LaMirada were Indian scouts who aided Ulysses S. Grant during the Mexican-American War and later became prosperous citrus farmers who built many homes in the community today. In 1915, Juan Bautista de la Cruz donated land to provide public access to the beach at La Mirage Boulevard and Spring Valley Drive (now Spring Valley Drive State Beach). That same year, he also established the Mount Carmel Alumnae Association to promote education within local high school girls. In 1951, Mayor Manuel Ramos declared July 4th a National holiday in honor of President George Washington and selected LaMirada as one of five communities nationwide that would celebrate America's birthday on October 12th. The following year saw an influx of tourists due to Expo '51 - thanks in part to 350 miles (500 kilometers) of shoreline new construction courtesy of General Motors' lease on the Sand Hills Naval Weapons Station adjacent to Point Loma where they built a large amusement park complete with Ferris wheel and train line called midway Empireland USA - now Universal Studios Hollywood - as well as other attractions such as King Kong Park and Six Flags Over California theme parks; all while still preserving much century-old infrastructure including downtown buildings dating back to 1886! In 1977, after years of planning led by then Mayor Carl Seilermeyer III along with input from then Supervisor Donny Yenick (now Executive Vice President for Community Affairs for City Councilmember Jim Beall), vacationers discovered what had been long suspected: There was plenty more sand than anyone had realized! Fresh roasted coffee has been a common and widespread beverage in the United States for over two centuries. The first recorded roast was made in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte at his family's Coffee House in Philadelphia. In 1815, John Jacob Astor ordered five thousand pounds of fresh beans from Pemberton & Son, Ltd. for his New York City restaurant, The Plaza. Fresh roasted coffee became an important part of American culture and grocery stores throughout the 1920s and 1930s. By the late 1940s, fresh roasted coffee had become increasingly rare due to advances in production methods. However, its popularity continued to grow until the 1990s when it began to decline in popularity because of high prices and limited availability.
There are a few key moments in coffee history that stand out. The first espresso machine was built by Angelo Bertelli in 1875, and it could make a small batch of coffee at a time. In 1901, Dutchman Cornelis Janssen started selling the first truly automated espresso machines. These were called “Janssen machines” because they were made by Janssen himself in his home workshop. In 1912, Swiss inventor Hugo Seligman created the first automatic drip coffee brewer. This machine used groundwater to filter and flavor the water used for brewing coffee, which allowed for more consistent results each time.

La Mirada was first settled by Mexicans in the 1840s. In 1853, Californios arrived to help build the railroad and began to arrive in increasing numbers. The airfield here was built for bombers and fighter planes during World War II. After the war ended, La Mirada became an agricultural center with many farms and ranches dotting its area. In recent years, La Mirada has seen an increase in development as it becomes a popular tourist destination for residents and visitors alike. The community has seen a number of developments such as an amphitheater which seats 40000 people and a new shopping mall which will have 600 stores. Additionally, there are plans to add more jobs within the community through job training programs and economic development initiatives such as agriculture or tech startups
La Mirada was founded by José Antonio La Reyna on December 6, 1847. The town became a part of Mexico in 1848 and then the United States of America in 1912.
